OK so I have this correspondence pack thing to do and some
of the questions are proving impossible. This doesnt even
include the grammar questions of which some are asking about
subjects I have no idea about and that my grammar refference
book has never heard of either.

for example...

Match the sentences with the structures.

1. My car was stolen.
2. Open the box!
3. If you heat ice, it melts.
4. Can I help you?
5. He won’t pass the exam if he doesn’t do any work.
6. He said he would come the following day.
7. If I had enough money, I’d eat out more often.

a. Interrogative
b. Reported Speech
c. Passive
d. Second Conditional
e. Imperative
f. First Conditional
g. Zero Conditional

My grammar book claims to have never heard of Zero
conditional!

and its not just thats some of them... well... have a look
for yourself!

The underlined verbs in the following sentences are
incorrect. Look at each sentence and:
a.Correct the tense.
b.Name the correct tense.
c.Give two further example sentences.

We’ve been to Toronto six months ago.
a.
b.
c.

if anyone can help I will love you forever!

are not called that according to my grammar book so i dont
know which they mean!

anyhow thanks Mapp... I owe you!

props to mapp.

as for "We’ve been to Toronto six months ago" - since both
the "have" and "been" are underlined, i'd change it to "We
went to Toronto six months ago".

simple past perfect? you mean pluperfect?

well whatever you do, i'd change "been".

"We'd been to toronto months ago" sounds completely wrong.
to me anyway.

It doesn't really matter what tense it is, as long as it's
in the past. There's not such a stark contrast between
simple past, perfect and pluperfect in english as there is
in German, for example.

In any event, changing it to the pluperfect would indicate
the action having occured at a time earlier than that which
is indicated by the simple past or perfect. it generally
goes:

earliest -> latest
pluperf -> simp. pst -> perf -> present

so it's best to stick to the simple past.

Tell us more about this "pack"? Is it some sort of exam you
have to send off to be able to teach english abroad? i'm
very interested

The hard pat of the question is that I have to say what
tense the corrected sentence is, whether its past perfect or
present perfect or past simple progressive etc and you can
only change teh underlined part.

It is supposed to be my training pack, meaning they don't
train you they just send you a bunch of awkward questions
and get you to try and answer them. I'm not going to be an
English grammar teacher but i may get grammar questions form
students so I have to brush up. It's just awkward not being
an english student and my grammar reference books are just
muddling my head. It also doesnt help that they use alot of
American english expressions. For example there is a
question about phrasal verbs but instead of calling them
phrasal verbs they sue the American english term of Two and
trhee part verbs which makes my life all the more
difficult.

I ahve today to finish pack 1 (which is half done) and pack
2 which I havent started. I'dlike to get on to actually
planning lessons (pack 2) but I need to get tehse grammar
questions out of the way first, it's really doing my head
in. Alot of it is lack of confidence but still it's hard.

If you want I'll upload the .doc, if you're interested like,
you can have a look. some of its easy some of its just
awkward. Like trying to explain teh difference between fat
and overweight in a way that isnt just out right saying the
difference.

cheers. already learned a lesson myself:

You rob a bank and steal its money. I would demonstrate
this using a game. I would lay a number of things out in
front of me and then turn my back. I would get the student
to “Rob” me and I would try and guess what it was they
chose to “Steal”.

I'd have used those two words interchangably, but I see what
you mean completely. good shit.

Some adjectives end in “ed” and some end in “ing”.
What is/are the rule(s)?

reddened / reddening

it's the difference between an adjective derived from the
simple past form and progressive past
