organisation hezbollah?
I seriously dont have any background information

hezbollah (non-government militants in south of lebanon)
abduct two israeli soldiers and start launching missiles
into northern israeli towns. israel uses this as an excuse
to bulldoze half of lebanon, militants and civilians alike.

hezbollah = party of god (extremely unimaginative)

lebanon's christian and shia civilians are now backing
hezbollah, according to the BBC.

Yo seriously, would you abduct your neighbors children?
Would you launch beercans into your jewish neighbors garden
party?

you are an ISRAELI you are associated with
invading/bulldozing/air strikes by palestinians and other
neighbours. i'm 1/4 jewish and i fucking hate israel.

I don't see why they don't just move Israel to somewhere
less controversial.

you cant just ship 10 million people off thousands of miles
though can you? (that seems to be iran's plan though)

israel isnt going anywhere, and it shouldnt. they just need
to understand the people around them, aid them where
necessary and stop bulldozing their houses.

Nah, the genies out the bottle now. It shouldn't have been
set up there in the first place, but there's no going back
now.

btw....Why are people taking sides? The right wing supports
Israel and the left supports the Palestinians. It's not a
fuckin' football match people.

you can look at it with that as a start point, or with the
bombing of the gaza beach and the abduction of a palestinian
doctor and his brother as a start point. then, the story
goes, palestinians abducted old private shalid (who i'd say
is long dead by now), the israelis start bombing the shit
out of the gaza strip, then hezbollah do something
completely stupid by abducting two israeli soldiers and
giving israel a reason to invade. they were either trying to
show solidarity with the palestinians, or, more likely,
trying to split the army's capabilities into a two-front
war.

It shouldn't have been set up there in the first place,
but there's no going back now.

that single sentence shows your complete ineptitude at
understanding politics. Yeah, sure, israel was just set up
in some arbitrary place, the location didn't matter in the
slightest, we all just wanted to say sorry to the jews. yeah
that's what happened.

possibly. hezbollah probably do have links to palestinian
militants and are probably on the same "side".

there is no doubt that both of those points are absolutely,
not probably, true. the lebanese suffered under israeli
occupation for years.. this is why hezbollah was formed: to
drive the israelis out. they've now reassumed this purpose
in the wake of recent events. they also say that they were
expecting the israelis to invade lebanon in the coming
months; this being the reason that they're so well armed by
iran/syria and also the reason why they struck "first".

lebanon has four groups, right? sunni, shia, christian,
druze.
does hezbollah [claim to] represent the sunnis, or are they
just a general anti-israel thing?

Oh, puh-leeeze.....*winces and holds hands palms out*

"Yeah, sure, israel was just set up
in some arbitrary place, the location didn't matter in the
slightest, we all just wanted to say sorry to the jews. yeah

that's what happened."

That's not what I'm saying at all. Don't try all this
interwebs straw man bollocks with me. Of course I understand
Israel's location in the context of their religious beliefs,
and Britain backing out of the Palestine Mandate. (This is
GCSE history for fuck's sake) In an ideal world, Israel's
power would have been more stricly regulated from day one,
but that hasn't happened and there's no easy or clear way
out of this mess.

That's not what you said. What you said was:
It shouldn't have been set up there in the first
place

How does "It shouldn't have been set up there in the first
place" mean "Their power would have been more strictly
regulated from day one"?

My point is that if the Israelis HAD to get their own way
and have their nation state in that region, then at least
you could have some kind of restrictions on their military
capabilities and expansion by the UN.
But this is all academic now, because Israel exists as an
established nation. You have to start from that point rather
than go back and say "if the UN did this in '48, if the UN
did that..."

And explaining the conflict and surrounding ideologies in
the terms of some epic action movie with Israel as the
baddies isn't exactly a balanced, distanced way to look at
the situation.

the UN has been trying to make Israel act humanely and
reasonably and has, on a multitude of occasions, condemned
the Israelis.

You're right. There's no point in looking back and saying
"if the UN did this in 48, if the UN did that..", mainly
because the UN did try to do things, but were
prevented by the US, Israel's bully of an older brother.

My aunt works for united nations and she's out here for a
visit, then back to the danger zones. She told me an awful
lot, the stuff we're hearing in the news, and even reading
on our most trusted news sites is still holding back alot.
The jewish community (worldwide but mostly in america) has a
surprising amount of power in the media. This war started in
the 1940's, it's just escalated now.

Jewish community having control over the media...

That's a bit dodgy right there.. while it might, and
probably is, true, it's less provocative and less dodgy to
say that the right-wing (rupert murdoch et al.) have such
control..

it will all blow over........ my original prepiction of 1
month might be
a bit optimistic, lets make it three, but it's apparant that
UN peacekeepers will step into southern lebanon and
everything will be tickityboo. No wider conflict, no direct
involvement of Syria and/or Iran.
