hey people

well finally i've been able to get some of my analog stuff
recorded - me and my mate Scott were doing a jam session
today, him on his bass and my girlfriend's microKORG while i
was on the analog gear

i don't think zebox allows direct linking anymore, so i'll
just give you guys the link to my zebox page

first 4 tracks are the ones in question here

oh yeah, this is the first time i've ever worked with anyone
in a "jam session" environment, so expect some
shitness/fuckups but at least you guys can't say i'm just
sitting on my gear doing fuck all

:)

thank you mate

i'm hoping this will turn into a kind of side project thing
:) could be very interesting...can't wait to throw the
machinedrum into the mix too, but that'll have to wait until
i can grab it from my dad's place

i expect some heavy 303 and bassguitar duets, since the
little silver box was meant to be exactly that in the end :)

there is some 303 + real bass action in there...think that's
with number three, although i can't quite remember

it was fucking ace anyways, sat there for like 4-5hours just
making noise

hehe had to come back home at some point today! i was
starving

if you can get some gear do it man - well i find it more
productive than sitting in front of Reason or something

and i still say that the 808 is the most fun to program out
of all the stuff i have (Laura likes it too)

however i think the tracks could use some improvement, i
still kinda like them, probably track 4 the most. The
problem is that the bassguitar is abit low on the first
track, and well..... it didn't really catch my attention,
aswell as the other tracks. But after doing alot of such
jams, you'll get better and better.

So far, good job, but it needs work meng.

It doesn't matter how good the tracks are, it's on analogue
gear, ergo, it's acid great.

that's true

osk, i'll make you a track in the morning, just for the fun
of it

Ok, here are my thoughts:

Jam 1: Things are uninteresting until about 1:30 or so. I'd
advise maybe shortening that introduction stage. The bass
melody is definitely nice. Overall it didn't really keep my
interest. Not enough is going on. But you DID say this is a
jam session, so I take it was improvised? With that in mind
it's definitely got some merit. I can't expect you to be
juggling five different instruments at once.

Jam 2: I do like this so far (I'm at 50 seconds right now).
It's catchy, I like the acidy bass. Not too fond of the
ambient pad that's going on in the background (2:20). Not
the sound itself -- the sound is fine. The melody just seems
really meandering and not really doing anything or going
anywhere. It's like just added noise. Again though, I'm
getting bored. Not much is really changing except for some
whirring effects on the pad and increased squelchiness to
the bass. Not enough is going on to keep me interested.

Jam 3: Same thing. Not enough going on. Too repetitive.

Jam 4: This beat is better than the ones I've heard on the
other tracks. Still though, nothing really happens. I can
see how this'd be interesting if you were MAKING it, but
it's not interesting for me to listen to in my bedroom here.
I do like the beat on this one though.

yeah, i know...that's why i put a disclaimer saying that
they'd probably not be the best stuff you've ever heard

in all honesty that was the first chance i've had to
actually have most of the equipment all hooked up together
and playing.

thanks for listening and giving feedback though :) hopefully
next jam there'll be more improvement

thank you for giving me a really in depth review on this
stuff

yeah this is the first time i've ever really worked with
anyone else musically, so it was pretty new to me. the first
three tracks where improvised yes....the last one, number
four i had already pre-programmed that beat at home ages ago
when i first got the 808...scott did his thing with the bass
over that one and there ya go

overall considering my lack of practice, and as it was my
first time doing anythig like this i'm quite pleased with
the outcome

i hope to be able to bring you all some more stuff in the
coming weeks :D

yea there are some nice ideas, but none of these are tracks
to me, its like an audio drafting book. nice ideas, but
nothing complete, and thus found hard to listen to

it sounds a bit flimsy, i don't really think jams like this
should be released because they just end up dragging on
without much change/interesting stuff going on. it's fun to
jam, but if you're not some insane 70s prog rock band or a
jazz instrumentalist or something, it'll sound terribly
monotonous to everyone else.
