if we had 13 months..

we would have 28 days in each month. not 30 days have
semptember, april, june and november all the rest have 31,
except february.

28 days is 4 even weeks which means the date numbers and the
days would always have a special relation. with four even
weeks it would loop evenly. (assuming the months start on
sunday) if you see 1/1/2006 you know it will be sunday as
1,8,15 and 22 will always occour on sunday. 2,9,16 and 23 on
monday etc. This would be a great help as you could easily
learn to recognise a day of the week with the common way of
writing the date which was previously impossible.

i always know the day, but never the date, so with this i
can easily work out the date, also, know when the month
starts and ends without silly rhymes.

the seasons in the 12 month calender aren't even accurate.
each season goes for a different length of time. also, In
australia, the least hours of daylight (or least exposure to
the sun due to tilt of the earth) occours on June 21st
(astologically meaning the middle of winter), however,
according to our gregorian calander, this is less than 1/3
of the way through winter.

the only downfall of 13 months is that would would not
divide into 4 seasons evenly. although if the seasons were
fitted into a 13 month system it would be just as accurate.

also there are 12.4 lunar orbits a year, which is closer
fitting to 12 month calender than 13 months very narrowly.

so apart from the last two points which seem paper thin, and
are quite useless to me, i think 13 month years would be a
positive move.

i understand what your saying, but if we change the year into
13 months the earth will spin off its axis and crash into a
tree

This is a good idea, but it is bad because 13 is a prime
number, so dividing the year into quaters, etc is not
elegant. 12 is very good, since it has factors of
1,2,3,4,6,12. 13 only has 1 and 13.

Also events would always be on the same day, so some poor
souls would always have their birthday on a Monday, while
others would always be able to party hard as it would fall
on a Friday.

It's a nice idea, but it won't happen. Why not split day
into 10 'hours', 100 'minutes' per 'hour' and 100 'seconds'
per minute, etc

It works how it is, ok it's not the best way, but that's the
way life is, gives you Friday the 13th, leap years, all
sorts of things which make life more intersting.

i have a cell phone. one of the things it does is when you
open it up it says both the time and the date, so i don't
need to change the entire month system so it would be easier
to know what day it was.

oh also the same thing is on my laptop

What do you call the extra day?

What about 12 months of 30 days and 6 extra days, every
other month, or all at the end of the year during the
holidays.

ha, under my system fridays would always be on the 13th.

i would love to see a metric time system, but unlike the
calender, i'm quite comfortable with with it, and getting
used to a 10 hour day. or more probably 20 hours (10
morning, 10 evening) would be a hassle.

That sounds much better, but humans always tend to built up
from what was previously. The current system is too
ingrained in the culture. It's better but couldn't catch on,
much like standardizing systems of measurement and such. or
how about recreating english language so that no single word
has 2 meanings (saw = saw in half, or past tense of see).
Everything would be hyper logic more easily understandable
by machines maybe. maybe 26 letters isn't the best. and
maybe 10 base decimal system isn't the best.

you can also have 10 months with alternating 36 and 37 days.
and shove an extra leap day on every 4 years of course so we
can all get pissed.
