Time signature disregard?

okay.. listen to a song like "Come To Daddy (Mummy Mix)"
(you're got so many machines, Richard) .. he's really
just fucking around with sounds etc right? I'm not missing
something there correct? there is no coherent rhythmic
pattern/time signature is there?? I'm just talking about the
beginning, maybe later on in the track it comes together a
bit more..

also, I don't know if you've heard the song "Freedom Fries"
from Robert Plant's new album, but there is a drum loop
throughout the song that drives me CRAZY .. I'm convinced
they just liked the sound of it and paid no mind to the fact
that it makes NO rhythmic sense whatsoever.. tell me if I'm
wrong about this.. check

music doesn't need to be rhythmical logical to be good.

I always felt the same thing about Gridlocks trace - it
feels like they had this blank canvas and just inserted
rythms and sounds where they wanted. Of course it sounds
more coherent than lots of albums, i dunno

This utter disregard for time signatures will not do!
Something must be done! Someone must be held
accountable - preferably shot!

Calling this anti-rhythmical tomfoolery "music" is a slap in
our collective faces! The time has come to say no to such
nonsensical hogwash once and for all!

This message was brought to you by the Council for Real
Music.

I donnat know why that was a reply. Probably because qrter
is so dreamy. I mean how could you not reply to him,
really?

Whew, that's a relief. I thought for a minute you guys were
in cahoots, starting the revolution. And I didn't even make
a pipe bomb out of Edgard Varese's skull yet.

There is a beat running through it.

Jesus, the whole of that Robert Plant has real time
signature issues, e/g: 9/4. Being a drummer, that's hell.

Music is a form of expression in the medium of time using
the structures of sounds or tones and silence. I think it
fits.

hmmmm... altho' i have heard that track to the extreme
...either I have an outstanding sense of rhythm or... hm..

..it's semi-fast and semi-syncopated, yet rhythmic.. nothing
is "out of time".. it all fits..

What are we saying, that Aphex Twin and Robert Plant, oooooh
those two, should play... more... rigidly.. structured...
music... so people.. like ... theo himself... can.. copy
it... more easily... and make a ... double album of beats...
to sell... to .. would be... rappers?

the vast majority of the music we listen to is in 4/4
time... even electronic music... even though it sounds
weird, it's usually still 4/4 time...

It does, you've just got to have decent patience to get to
know how it works kinda.

If you don't like weird time signatures, don't go anywhere
near Venetian Snares :P

Just coming back to this, there is some IDM that doesn't
have a time signature, or if it does it's near impossible to
find (some parts of Ae's P:Ntil and Tapr from Draft spring
to mind).

Somebody would slag him off followed by someone leaping to
his defence, added by someone saying that people shouldn't
be negative about any music and then someone else will say
"you have to see him live".

VSnares, crap or wonderful, does have clear time signatures
in his musics. The tracks are normally in 7/8 time.
