Listen to the new album and witness for yourself.

AWFUL.

FWIW, the production is decent, and i'm not really a fan of
booty-bass and its derivitives, so this just didn't hit any
of my buttons. I realise its somewhat cliche to rip Shadow
for everything he's made post-Endtroducing, and I give him
props for trying something new... but this just doesn't work
imo.

It seems to me that perhaps Shadow is aiming to go pop with
this album. And he'll probably get a decent chart placing
from it.

badly

I heard that "3 Freaks" tune, and it's the only thing he's
ever done that I liked. I'm not into all this 90's
sampledelica nonsense.

Bad Neptunes pop effort

and

Sounds like bleedin' Coldplay

i thought The Private Press was a good record, that
didn't deserve the bad reviews i had heard from some
sources...

...until i played it then right afterwards played
Endtroducing.... even though i still think The
Private Press
is good, it doesn't hold a candle to
Endtroducing....

then i heard '3 Freaks'.
...ouch.
well, at least it's different. : /

I love the Private Press, its on par with Endtroducing in my
mind. Just the number of featured artists on The Outsider
puts me off.

sampledelica is a fucking RAD word.

Too much "Jockey Slut" as a nipper, and you end up dropping
phrases like that all the time.

Endtroducing is good because it's far more than the sum of
its parts.

Anything else, sadly, including UNKLE, has been bloated
prog-hop bollocks.

Yeah, I think Private Press was really too clean, which kind
of detracted from the feelings you get from hearing
"Endtroducing..."

I love the record though, which I kind of blame on my
appreciation for RJD2 - he doesn't change it up as much,
doesn't dig as deeply as shadow used to. I'll comment on the
new one in a little bit, have to go pick it up.

also,

creative juices ebb and flow, i don't know if this is the
_fall_ of DJ Shadow, just perhaps a bad spot.

i don't want to be let down by shadow. endtroducing is still
a staple album for me. i've spent a lot of money buying all
of his other projects... unkle, brainfreeze, product
placement, quannum/soulsides...

did anyone hear his production on cage's 'hells winter'
album?

i did buy cut chemist's album last week and have enjoyed it.

Saw him live at the Sonar Festival, me being a fan of him
and all, but...

That was pure shit!!!

OMG, very disapointin'!

He even made a speech before the start tellin' he was gonna
show us the future of hip-hop (wtf?!?!)...

That 'You Made It Track' is appalling. It sounds like middle
class student indie rock a la Keane. He seems to be
simultaneously jumping on this hyphy thing and regressing to
the most conservative of rock music.

i just think he tried something different. at which he has
no experience and therefor isnt very good

He was terrible live in leeds. Had two [bling-bling] rappers
with him and some fucking emo coldplayish singer playing
guitar too. dreadful.

tent was packed at the get-go, half empty after about 15
mins.

i hope nobody buys this record.

OH MY! I was just about to write about that but you beat me
to it! That gig was poor! I loved the stuff off the old
albums though, it was just I hated EVERYTHING off the new
album. Terrible. That emo guy singing made me want to die.
That fucking bellend in the audience, blowing that fucking
chavvy horn thing every 5 seconds made it so much more
unbearable though! :D

I saw him 2 nights ago in Sydney.... yeah i had a sick time
and enjoyed MOST of it but i do agree that most of the new
stuff i heard, i didnt like one bit... Especially that
fuckin english singer! chris something?
haha you could tell the whole crowd hated him because
everyone stopped moving and when he finished the applause
was for him getting off the stage... oh and a dude to the
right of me shouted "THAT WAS FUCKING GAY!!"

Mos Def played before shadow and i think the crowd liked him
a lot more than shadow.

Oh and i wanted to shoot one of the baller rappers shadow
bought with him because the fuckwit didn't know that saying
"let me hear it for my man DJ Shadowwwwww!" about 10 times
gets incredibly annoying... there was wayyy too much crowd
teasing.

I wont be buying the new record without listening to the
whole thing first...

Peace

he lost it on the 2nd album for me, don't like his dj mixes
either where he spoils wicked tunes by scratching crap over
the top, was genius on 1st album though, took me a good few
years to spot some of the samples

haha, ah babes, I can't remeber. It was a different guy
though. The one that tapped Alex on the shoulder was
absolutely hammered and was just grinning at him. Maybe he
picked up on his bi-ness :D
