and lazy bastards.

i came across this article some time ago and i greatly
admire this guy's philosophy.

although i've recently started working fulltime in a
bookstore which is actually pretty enjoyable most of the
time, i still consider 'work' as something awful which is
only there 'because that's just how the world works'. I will
fight this concept for the rest of my life even if it means
ending up in a mental institution.

read what this guy has to say, and stop working.

JUST DONT DO IT

p.s.: let's not start a discussion or anything. a revolution
if anything. kthxbye

you like working there but still want to battle the concept
of work?

i battle the concept of not liking work (though i have
shitty jobs now, it). i can't stand and can't believe the
spirit of not living 5 days a week and only living it up at
the weekends. i just don't believe people that say that: i
think they do enjoy hanging out with colleagues and shit, if
they've done it right (i haven't yet) their field of
interest and their collegues are likeminded people. i
couldn't stand doing something absolutely horrible 40 hours
a week, i'd litteraly kill myself. bozo's who say
afformentioned stuff just don't know they're having an ok
time

while work can be OK it is never as OK as being at home
doing whatever it is you really WANT to do.

how people are seemingly unable to grasp this is a clear
consequence of years and years of brainwashing and
conditioning.

I have been home for roughly three years now (due to health
issues), and boy, I'm truly starting to get seriously bored!
I can't wait to start school this fall, and eventually get a
meaningful education/job and a decent income to support my
material wishes and needs.

Work can be crap, I know that from personal experience, but
if you have a job that is meaningful initially, doing
something you like, something you can relate to on a
personal level, it can - no it will - mean
a world of difference.

That's a really good, depressing article. I read like 1/4 so
far and will read the rest later.

Find the cheapest apartment around even if you have to move
far away and only work part time at some place with bad
customer service (= more freedom for employees). Never go to
college, and just 'do time' in highschool until you can get
the hell out and put that useless shit on a work
application. Shit, if I was an employer I'd search for
people who DIDN'T go to high school- probably less
corrupted.
The fact that all kids practically start off life by being
in jail (school) is another reason everyone is generally
evil and fucked up.

this is going alright

tho some people are missing the point. i'm not arguing
whether or not we NEED jobs in this current society.

not having a job SUCKS, but it shouldnt have to.

we are all 'expected' to work and i question this among
other things.

you work because you 'need' to earn money, because it is
generally expected from you and because you need to
'contribute' to society, civilisation and all that crap.

to me, there is no dumber thing to say than 'thats just the
way things are' ('and its no use trying to figure out why')

tonight it the time to defragment my brain with a healthy
dose of psilocybin. i reccommend everyone to do the same.

:)

What kind of health problems are keeping you on the
sidelines?

Life is weird. As of right now, I'm going into my 4th year
off school... I DO plan on going back and I can go whenever
I want but I don't have a passion for it, and as a result,
no plan, and that already cost me two wasted years and alot
of money. And I haven't worked in almost two years and can't
get a job at this moment because of a stomach disorder. I've
never been happier... I mean, I don't get bored, ever. I'm
too introverted to derive any pleasure from any of the jobs
I've had, and I think they've been pretty interesting and
well-paying, actually. Work isn't supposed to be FUN, but
you just CAN'T go to work every day getting no pleasure
whatsoever out of it.

i hope i never have to get another full time
job ever again because it's just a stupid way of spending
your life imo.

Yeah. I'm squarely in the camp that doesn't want to work
full-time and doesn't want to sacrifice time for money. I
don't need or want a lot of money, I'm quite low maintenance
and I'm unconcerned about ''contributing'' or whatever. I
want to go back to school and find a field I can stay sane
in... and conserve as much time as possible. Hard to figure
out a way to meet this criteria. I know I'll never make much
money with my mindset, unless I get lucky, but that's cool.

(I'm fortunate enough to not HAVE to work right now... some
people don't have a choice and it's upsetting. I've got a
lot of leeway)

Cool article BTW, good read.

i'm afraid most people in the western society would be
couchpotatoes. throwing away their time staring at a screen.

with respect to 50 years ago people have much more free time
to spend, but in general, this doesn't make them necessarily
happier.

come on, think a little. humanity spent its time working,
there is no other way. not working means you'll have to grow
your vegetables, hunt your meat, sew your clothes, etc.
which is work. you need energy to get what you need
(food/shelter/clothes). you either work to earn money to buy
them, or make them yourself. now tell me how you can satisy
your needs without working.

the thing is most people seem to work to earn as much money
as possible..and soon majority works just for the money..and
that is just bad..your main objective becomes money and
material things and when you really think about it, those
things don't give back anything worthwhile.

but yeah, lets get as much money as possible and waste out
lives on shitty non important jobs. why not.

i was talking about western societies ofcourse. you know,
you could easily survive with working 3 hours per day or
so..and still be able to afford basic needs..but ofcourse
you're of no use to the community the way this one is set.

once you will work for 10 years and then maybe have a break
of few months you will see what work really is. unless
you're lucky and get a job you would really enjoy.

sure, technology has reached a level where we don't have to
work all to produce food and everything for all. a few
machines do the work of many men, and it would be logical to
share work, though we're going the exact opposite direction.
that said, if 10 hours per week was the average work needed
per human to make the society work, we would still need some
people to work way more, just because you can't divide teams
the way you like, there would be a desastrous increase of
error factors. i'm not even talking about high
responsibility jobs, such as minister or whatever that are
full-time jobs, and you can't put several instead of one
because humans need a hierarchy, which basically means that
one is responsible for all. so you'd have a huge income
difference between working people and non-working people
because if not nobody would want to have responsibilities,
and it would be chaos. those differences between people's
role in society cannot be any good, that is pretty obvious,
we would have a class of sheeps and a class of directors, a
few other people in between. starts sounding like 1984, no
thanks.

that most people struggle to get food. the poor are always

that last statement sounds extremely odd coming from you.

for a LOT of people the point in life is quite positively to
have a good job, because they think work = life.

somebody once asked: do you work to live, or do you live to
work?

i want to work to live, but if you read the article you'll
see that it is not work in the way we know it in this
society.

you have to rememember that modern western society is
nothing but a concept which a few people came up with and is
now 'reality'. Its hard to say where it went wrong, but it
is time to go back in time.

i'm not waiting for the next trillion bullshit products to
arrive. I cant buy what isn't there. I can not miss what i
dont know.

why do i have to choose out of 10 different brands of chips
in the supermarket? because otherwise there wouldn't be 10
factories where people could be employed? its all bullshit.

read the article and tell me where the guy makes absolutely
NO SENSE AT ALL according to you.

well, why did he write this article is a good question to
start with. he's a lazy fuck.

so you'd rather not have choice?

come on not a single idea makes sens in this childish text.
look at the title "the abolition of work" com on... how can
that be serious?

"Even if you aren't killed or crippled while actually
working, you very well might be while going to work, coming
from work, looking for work, or trying to forget about
work."
how much would you rate this? 0/10
i can be killed when i go to work or when i work, therefore
work is bad, great, thank you for enlightening us. hopefully
it is not possible to die on a bike.

"we have to take what useful work remains and transform it
into a pleasing variety of game-like and craft-like
pastimes, indistinguishable from other pleasurable pastimes
except that they happen to yield useful end-products."
does that need explanation? i'm sure his bedroom is filled
up with 5-year-old-boy toys. what a wanker. he has no idea
what work is, he has no idea how a society works.

i wouldn't know where to begin
sure our lives aren't perfect, and there are probably tons
of people living a happier life in third world countries.
but take a moment to look at what western society has
achieved. not everything is bad. look at the field of
medicine, or science in general. all that progress would
have been impossible if there were no such things as jobs,
economy and society. everyone who works contributes in one
way or another.
if you don't like what you're doing, find something else you
like. that's your responsibility. you can't blame your job
for having a shitty life. like you said, you're the one
that's living your life, not your job.
do you even realise how fortunate you are to live in the
western society? people have more options than they'd ever
had to make something of their lives. if you want to live in
the third world, than go. and while you're going, take a
moment to think about the people doing their jobs at the
airport, the diners, the government, the hospitals, etc.
without those people it would be much harder to get what you
want.

what sounds reasonable is to compare
number of people dead while working and number of people

to say "work kills x billion people" is not a point.
