Because you wanted it that way.

thats very untrue. i asked for orange vinyl and they made it
brown.

Because you might have tried to accidently peal it and eat
it if it were orange. They were only thinking of you.

can anyone confirm this?

'Although the brown vinyl issue is so-called limited (10.000
copies, right) this black-wax edition is much scarcer. Warp
actually pressed less than the limited edition. Now u
finally know why u rarely see a black one for sale. If u get
the chance to grab this "standard" edition don't hesitate as
the quality of sound is so much better. If it wasn't that
the brown album also had a different sleeve (black and white
instead of brown) I would have sold that one ages ago since
the vinyl reproduces disturbing noise throughout. '

the black version is harder to find for some reason, its the
version I ened up getting, there are 3 vinyl versions, 1 of
the brown versions is a mis press, the other one has a black
and white cover and back.... the black vinyl one sounds the
best too from what Ive read.

Its not that hard to find, although youll probably have to
pay a bit for it.

on a slightly related note - why does any music appear as
limited editions?

surely it doesn't make the music actually sound better, so
it must be to make the record itself more desirable, to make
the object itself more special.

which still is weird - it's about the music in the end, but
now the medium has also become "important". strange.

and there's also the enforced time limit ofcourse -
BUYNOWBUYNOW before they're all GONE!!

Or is it because there isn't really that many people who'd
buy it?

evolution favors those who hoard scarce resources :)

probably, hence the forced time limit - don't let people go
"oh I'll get that later", SELL IT NOW and QUICK!

"uh uh uh I'm not sure I want this record, I-"
"GETITNOW! ORIT'LLBEGONE!! FOREbayVER!!"
"uh UH UH OKAY! OKAY!"

You should really trademark the concept of FOREbayVER, how
nothing ever really disappears anymore, or gets deleted or
goes out of stock, as it eventually washes up on the virtual
shores of eBay again and again like so much cultural flotsam
and jetsam, nine times out of ten only to be cast back into
the eBay pool.

just imagine the shock when you can't find something on
eBay. it's a heartstopper. at that point the concept of an
item actually "Being Gone" becomes stark reality. no more
infinite space.

this actually occuring is ofcourse impossible. the theory
smells nice, though.
