So, like I want to buy a used laptop, n shnak, and I
currently have dial up. I want to get something better than
dial up; what should I get n shnak and what gizmos do I need
(ie. a "modem" or something like atha oehasthatlsk) and like
what service is a good one to get, cheap and stuff, like uh,
in the usa or something. I want the kind where you are
always logged into the internet, just open the browser and
you're there, yo. Werd! Laptop dipshits. should I get "dsl".
tapeworms.

I can't stop thinking about my collar bone. It's driving me
entirely insane. I think the bone marrow is slowly
disintegrating out of it, but on the right side only....
ugh.. I imagine like something looping around it like a rope
or metal collarbone snatcher and yanking it out of my body,
or indians shooting arrows right into it, YACK. I have to
keep my right shoulder on my chin, and it keeps getting
worse. I bet my tape worm is inside eating the bone marrow
or something.

I'm googling "cable vs dsl". I don't know but suspect cable
is cheaper and maybe slower. do you know of a cheap one,
maybe 10 bucks a month. That's what net-gaf-zero charges
anyway and they're dial up. But you DO get that cool spyware
though. maybe dsl is the same price as cable.

"Most cable plans cost between $40 and $45 per month"

I hope that statement is dated and it's cheaper now.

Here, at least, DSL is cheaper than cable. I've used both
and cable seems to be just a little bit faster, but DSL is
fast enough for everything I would want to do.

If you get cable, you'll have to have a cable modem. Some
companies will give you a free after rebate cable modem,
which is fine if you don't mind waiting for the rebate.
Cable modems seem to run around $80-$100. Some companies
also allow you to rent cable modems for a low fee each
month. I don't remember exactly how much, but I think it was
around $5 per month. I think prices for service depend on
your area, and how much competition is around, but here you
can get cable internet service for $20 a month with no
contract.

With DSL, you'll also have to have a modem, but DSL modems
seem to be cheaper (around $50) and you can most times get
them free with rebate. As far as I know, most companies do
not have the option of renting a DSL modem. With DSL, you'll
most likely have to get it from the same company who
supplies your phone service. If you don't have phone service
something called "naked DSL" or "dry loop DSL"
might be available in your area--that seems to cost about $20
per month, which is less than a phone line and DSL together.
If you have a phone line, you can most times get a contract
that costs anywhere between $12-$17 on top of your
phonebill.

I have DSL, though I sort of regret getting it because it
would have been cheaper to go for cable since I did not have
a phoneline, and dry loop was not available here. Here's a
link to a package similar to the one I got (good
deal if you're going to be staying where you are for a
year).

Thanks for all the help. I'm glad you mentioned the phone
company because I was checking the top dsl/cable companies
(earthlink, cox, charter etc) and they seem to all be 40
bucks a month (or a deceptive introductory 19.99 a month for
the 1st few months only), but I googled verizon, my phone
company (i have a phone line) and it seems to only be 15 a
month...!
I also googled my electric company (edison) and they seem to
offer cheap cable service too.

By the way, didn't you send me those animation-ish programs
a long time ago. I never installed them because my computer
was a super allergic hyper sensative time bomb, but should
have no problem loading it on the laptop I'll be buying
soonish. The only animation capability I have is the gimp
and making something like your avatar would be so cumbersome
as to not be worth bothering. What program did you use to
make your avatar animation again, assuming you made it?

I used Flash MX to make my avatar, with a little editing in
ImageReady to make it look right.
