Past their prime?

Aphex Twin-RDJ Album, Autechre-Tri Repetae, BoC-Geogaddi,
Squarepusher-Hard Normal Daddy, Plaid-Double Figure. These
are my favourite albums of the big Warp artists. Some of you
may disagree and choose other, but my question is; do you
feel that these artists still haven't made their best music
yet? Do you think that they will release better albums that
YOUR favourites? I have a feeling that when these artists
retire, split up or just vanish, these albums will still be
on top of the list, imo.

they may be yet to make their best work. but life is too
short to hang around. and what they've done already is
pretty damn decent.

i think aphex has yet to release his best stuff, boc and ae
too... squarepusher... not sure, i need to hear this new
album to get a grip on his path, but you never know anyway.
plaid, yeah. i don't think they'll make something like
df/booc/p-brane/rpc ever again. but really, hard to make a
prediction.

hard to guess, all of that. i usualy just enjoy the/those
albums. not thinking about the future - usually. there are
other people here responsible for the future anyway

i dunno, i mean most artists 'classic' album is among their
first 4 or so I think people struggle to accept any new
direction or improvement on past ideas... the fact is not
many recently debuting electronica artists seem like they
are going to blow anyone away anytime soon

There needs to be a shift in attitudes towards making
electronic music. If that shift truly radical, then most of
the people here probably won't even like it. The same way UK
hip hop heads don't rate grime.

ya but no new music is going to bring back that feeling of
"discovering" electronic music (come to daddy, icbyd, etc),
the nostolgic factor is gone, and that obviously plays a BIG
role (i.e. looking back on things, memories, etc).

now with internet, music is pumped out and consumed? faster
than ever before.

back then you kinda "discovered" things. now it's all on
the table like a buffet.

analord is great but now that im knee deep into this stuff
(i.e. it's the majority of what i listen to, unlike years
back) it's assumingly not going to 'stick' like the other
albums have/done.

face it.

music today is like web forums
new versinos come out, people keep adding all this needless
informatino, links, signatures, pictures, profile stuff,
etc, when none of that really matters (it's about the damn
content of the post, no?)

that's what music seems like to me, today.

I agree about the discovering part, that probobly holds true
even more so to our parents buying records in the 60-70's.

Maybe it has to do with age, or if you discover an album at
an important/memorable time in your life. However I do not
agree that music today is like webforums.

I used to feel similarly inundated, but I think music
discovery is manageable, I long ago found a sweetspot. I
just have to consult with people whose taste I trust and
click with, rather than read random reviews and ratings and
lists and stuff and hunt things down impersonally. When I do
that, it gets hairy. I've never enjoyed music more than I do
now.

i think aphex has a decent chance of coming out with
something completely groundbreaking still. maybe when 6.1
surround recordings are the norm or something.

but i think chris clark is the rising star now. he's going
to be a great one, and these are some really hard footsteps
to follow and stay original at the same time.

O RLY?

My point is that once everything gets into a nice
comfortable groove for it's listeners it stops being
radical. Another artist coming out with "lush pads" and
"complicated beats" isn't really going to cut it as fresh
anymore.
The fact is, we can't even imagine what the next innovative
thing in music is going to sound like, because that's the
whole point of innovative music in the first place. If you
are too blinkered to see that, then I feel sorry for you.
I just have a strong feeling it will be something dissmised
off hand by your average Warp-groupie.

For the last couple of years I have been buying nothing but
jazz records from the 40's, 50's and 60's (in particular)
and that has brought back that great feeling of discovery
again. Some of the avant garde stuff from the 60's still
sound extreemly progressive and fresh and when it comes to
groove there is vast amounts of it to be discovered in
jazz..

The only new electronic records I have been buying during
this period are the new ones by Autechre's... I think they
still make interesting music and I trust they will do for
many years to come.

No matter what these guys do in the future there will always
be fanboys crying about the change in style.

Aphex had people crying when he went all laptop and
drum/drill n bass style, then he had people crying when he
stopped being all laptop drum/drill n bass...

Oh yeah there'll be fangirls too.

As in life, some eras looks better than others.
child/teen/adult/old.
with artist/records happen the same.
..probably i will always love the teen works of the aphex
twin.
maybe his old ambients works will be the hit of my death

I like the way you do the English Falito.
Yeah, I usually am more keen on earlier aphex twin, but I've
every confidence he'll do something else great before he
dies. Unless he dies by accident or has some massive disease
like every other 'prodigy' in the past I'm sure he'll do
some great things to listen to, considering he mentions
Stockhausen, Xenakis and Satie in interviews.

Good music is good music. It knocks me on my ass no matter
how old I am. I'm not Dad music age yet, though. Not going
to be busting out the phil collins anytime soon. The novelty
of electronic music has nothing to do with how good it was
to me when I was first discovering this stuff.
