i like the lack of bullshit here in your thread - thanks for keeping it straightforward.
sorry to be snotty, but i think it sounds a bit like boards of canada was commissioned to write a backing track for a beyonce single.
it's obvious you spent a lot of time on the drums, and i think that totally pays off. very nice work with those drums, sir mailbox. very organic and well done fills. but it is such an organic sound, it makes me wonder if you wouldn't be better off having a live drummer play this and a live band. and then i think, if this was a live band, would these melodies/riffs really work? i don't think it would be too interesting to listen to, to be honest.
so my point is that you are doing a good job, imo, you just need to work more on the songwriting side of things... unless you just want to do quasi-hip hop, in which case this sort of works, but you'd need rapping.

I agree that it sounds a bit like boc, which is unfortunate seeing as you know, I'd prefer not to just be some knock off. But it just turned out that way.
Real drums would be nice for this track, you're right. But I don't have any recording equipment or drums or anything so for now I've gotta settle for electronic stuff. Thank you much for your honesty and clarity, r40f.
