according to schopenhauer there are 3 basic natural drives
which determine human behaviour. egoism, sadism and
altruism.

regarding sadism i think it might be true. what do u think?

I'm not sure if altruism really exists or if it's just a
by-product of something else, filtered through an
individual's perceptions.

altruism is as real or fake as any of those three concepts.
it's all relative and based on perception as you say.

so i think it's bogus, personally. i don't think we can
even be limited by three drives - humans behave in extremely
complex ways even in daily life.

I dare say that one could classify any aspect of anything
according to virtually any criteria. You could just ask
easily classify human nature as submissive or dominant.

that's my point. you can either take this theory for what
it's worth, or leave it. it doesn't make sense to pick and
choose from the list and arbitrarily redefine the boundaries
the theory is based on.

well its not exactly about behaviour but about the
behaviour's motivation. complex behaviour doesn't imply the
motivation behind it is complex.

but yeah. there are no grounds on which you could safely
decide what natural drives there are or if there are any at
all. its metaphysical speculation.

That was my point too! We can share a point. Or maybe we can
have a point each.

No, (and this is either in deference to, or defiance of this
thread) I shall altruistically award the point to you.

glass bottles?
