I play guitar, I play guitar very well and it sucks that i
cant use it much in my electronic music... well i can but
anyway. Is there any nice vst's maybe that take a clean
guitar singnal and make it sound liek something else maybe a
bubling square wave or thick moog lead? By the way don't
bother mentioning the roland guitar synth midi pick up thing
cos I can't afford one im talking edditing raw wav or
direct inputs. Guitar rig just sound slike guitar
effects.... i dunno i wnat something that kinda make it
sound alot less guitar like!

Ideas on a stamped addressed envelope to blue peter!

Erm, you can use fast-ish hi-filter delay set very wet
(almost NO dry) to get pad sounds.

If you want a guitar synth, check the Electro Harmonix one.

ask Mike Oldfield. Those 'bagpipes' on tubular bells are
actually guitars.

get a synth with an evelope follower input (evolver is cheap
and does this)

May I also suggest ring modulation or vododering. i.e. use
guitar as modulator and synth sound as carrier

mess around with speeds of tape recordings of guitar, erm
listen to the green traffic cone Kraftwerk EP for some nice
experimental guitar stuff, try compression, distortion then
filter it and wobble the filter around or something, release
the campfire headphase 2, I dunno...

I use alot of ring mod and some of the old phase vowel
sounds its more about getting the thickness of the note.
Vocoder sounds like a good idea.

Ebow!

My ebow was such a waste of money as you can create the
exact same effect without an actual ebow!

Use an envelope follower to control your synth of choice
with your guitar, RAAH!

more voices is the best, slightly detuned like chorus only
without the moving

JUST an envelope follower will not track the pitch of the
guitar though. To do it all, you need an env. follower & a
pitch/frequency to voltage convertor.

Get a bass synthesizer guitar pedal or an analogue octaver
like the POG.

Why can't you just process the output of your guitar with
your ebow?

To my experience they rarely convert the pitch right though

I like the guitars on "Buddy Holly" by Weezer that sound
like synths.

some crackin effects in native intruments guitar rig, i
usually take a line out from my amp into soundcard then into
guitar rig, but even a direct input from guitar to soundcard
(through guitar rig) achieves decent results.

follow tom morello (of rage againt the machine / audioslave
fame) and abuse your toggle switch.

first of all, your guitar has to have a 2 humbucker (or two
lipsticks i guess) setup with a 3-way pickup selector and
individual volume controls for each. turn the bridge pickup
all the way to 10, and neck to 0. then hammer on/off notes
while quickly switching between the bridge and middle
settings on the switch with your picking hand. send that
through some distortion, compression, wahwah and even pitch
shifting and youve got yourself a bad ass guitar synth.

check out ratm tracks like 'how i could just kill a man' and
'know your enemy' for examples of how this sounds when done
right .

also, digitech whammy pedal is your god.

I had a future music cd that came with a monophonic guitar
tuner (i think) You could send midi out from it with midi
yoke to a synth of your choice. It would have worked i kow
that the tuner picked up the pitch quickly enough.
