christ its ahrd work. I decided i am a lil flabby and so
out of shape these days that i would start doing some
exercise. I just did three miles on the exercise bike and i
absolutley fucked! exercise is shit! I think I'll stick to
tai chi!

Well, it's hard work if you have just started, and only do
it a little. It was for me at first too, but started running
5 miles everyday (except Sundays) early in the morning for
the past 3 years now. It works. I'm not fat, just too
skinny.

thats impressive, i'd like to do that but i don't find the
time. I mean the time's there i just waste too much of it! 5
miles is quite a hefty run though how long does that take
you?

Exercise is fucking great.. It's creates a naturally-induced
high if sustained and strenuous enough.
To tell you the truth, recently I've grown to love the
feeling of aching muscles... maybe in some
slightly-masochistic sort of way, not really vanity... I'm
not really 'fit' even, or close to it. Hopefully some day.
But over-burden is the only thing to build any muscle it
seems.

But I couldn't run more than a mile or so... As I
smoke many cigs and frequent rum-dipped unfiltered
cigarellos and nearly-daily consumption of illicit herbal
substances. ....Though I would really much rather
majorly-overload myself with weight/repetition on a regular
basis than focus entirely on endurance and callisthenics,
and for the most part become physically exausted without
doing much other than burning calories.

I try to move quick. From my house, down to the park along
the highway and back, about 1 and half hours. I can't run
the whole time though, I take water breaks. But I go to bed
early so I can wake up early. I don't have much of a life.

It's a healty habit, i'd say start out by going on easy
walks around your neighborhood in the evenings when it's
cooler out, then after a few weeks, do the same, but jog
instead. Then work up to running and expand your terrain.
Explore on foot.

I quit smoking about a year ago now and ever since I've
tried living a little healthier. At the minute it sucks
though. We got a new Gas hob but there is a problem
connecting it up so we have no way to cook much other than
chips or microwave things. Its really irritating becaus ei
enjoy cooking a nice soup or pasta in fact i tend to live on
minestrone and vegtable stir fry!

I'm not fat or anything but i just generally unfit, i don't
want muscles or any of that stuff I'd just like to loose my
beer gut and not break into a sweat when i go up the stairs.
I used to be REALLY fit and did fuck loads of exercise now
i do sod all hence the enthusiasm.

It's not just the exercise though. I am really undisciplined
and I would really like to sort it out. It's just hard
because I am so inherently lazy. I only do things when i
need to and i don't need to do things often enough! maybe i
should join the army!

doesnit it tire you out for the day having spent the morning
running so much?

I think I am gonna give my self a schedule/timetable. Not
just regarding exercise but a general day's timetable.

Say 8am get up have cuppa etc!

In fact i am gonna do it ! I will do 3 miles on the bike
everyday, I'll stop eating chips and bread! (well not as
much bread) and i will force myself to do things i need to
be doing like practacing my Japanese or writting my book!

I think if i have a really detailed timetable i will do it!

Timetables suck. Just do it. Like your parents and teachers
always say, if you really want it, you'll try hard and work
for it. I've found this to be true.

do it later and then before i know it i am sat watching big
bro and then i am off to bed!

It's hard as hell, man. I've never once in my life had a
regular exercise regimen, but with my Colitis I have to
start. I've always been fairly adept athletically, in an
anaerobic sense... I can run fast, jump high, I'm decently
strong, good at sports, but my cardiac/aerobic fitness is
unbelievably bad. If I'm playing a sport, I'm always one of
the first to get visibly winded.

Do you exercise away from media and distractions? I just
can't keep myself going unless I'm exercising in front of a
TV or at least have some music going, it's really pathetic.
I have no willpower.

I do pretty much eveything with music or audiobooks.
Audiobooks are great for really mundane things its like
exercising the mind and the body! christ i sound middle
class hehe. But seriously audiobooks are great for this sort
fo stuff and perfect if you have a walkman or somesuch (i
use my ipod).

My timetable sucks btw i can't think of enough things to
fill the day that are actually productive in some sense. at
the mo its simpley exercise, japanese practice, and eating!

Question:

I go for a little 2 mile jog after work every evening.
But....I've heard it's better to jog in the morning as soon
as you get up, rather than later in the day.
It's meant to burn more calories, give you more energy
during the day, etc.

Is this true?

cycling is good because you can really notice it become
much much easier after you do a couple of strenuous
sessions, and then youre able to ride all over the place and
go wherever without being bothered by hills and stuff.

I run about 4-5k I think, two or three times a week on a
running machine, and some real life cycling. I stopped
smoking cause it made exercising feel shit when normally it
makes you feel like youre the king of everything

Supposedly it's good to work out in the morning, when it
comes to burning calories, yes. During some of my studies,
I've tried to work out in the morning (squash, pumping iron)
just because the gym had less people at that time. I did not
experience more energy because of this, and had more
problems concentrating and reading after a hard workout. I
think it's better to work out in the afternoon, or a couple
of hours before bedtime.

Not exercising is a death sentence. You might get away with
it in your teens or 20's, if you don't eat shit, but by the
time you hit your 30's, and even more so your 40's, if you
have lead a sedentary life-style, you're fucked. The
majority of my mates, who are in their 30's now, have lived
a life of drugs and partying, eating shit, not exercising,
and they are now beginning to pay the price - overweight and
unfit, some with major problems (diabetes). The guys I work
with, in their 40's, are even worse. Massive "beer-guts",
inability to do even moderate exercise (run around with
their kids, go camping/hiking etc.), liver problems, kidney
problems. And by the time your 50's come around, cancer,
heart attacks etc. etc.

GET OFF YOUR ARSE. DO SOMETHING. ANYTHING. YOU'RE LIFE
CAN GET A LOT WORSE AND IT WILL HAPPEN SOONER THAN
YOU THINK

Hmmmm....
'Cause my mate runs in the morning, and he says it gives him
an energy boost. He's knackered for a bit, then after his
shower, he feels great, apparently.

I've heard other people saying that, but it didn't work for
me. Even after a shower and a good meal, I was tired.
Working out in the evening is nice if you have troubles
sleeping=me

by about 3-4pm

I exercise mornings and evenings, but only light, low
intensity stuff before work. I lose motivation easily in
the morning, especially if I'm faced with leaving the house
to go for a run. Exercise in the evening gives me a lift
after work, and makes me sleep well.

The start is very hard but picture yourself it'll pay rich
rewards after about half a year... Go deep, go very very
deep!

I'm still in the 'building up' stage after about 2 years now
and it gives me such advantage in my daily routine!

I've been on and off with it. I just started back on it.

My arms need work so i am lifting weights. I need to get
back on my crunches. I need to get back on walks so i can
get back to running. That is pretty key.

My diet is something that I really need to work on
improving. That is probably going to be the hardest part.
But results take work.

If you watch alot of TV it is good to workout while watching
it. Lift weights during your favorite show or crunches
during commercials. Something to get in that habit!

exercise is the shit. i do it in the form of running around
and kicking a ball. at first it was tough as hell. after
about ten minutes i would be exhausted to a point of near
death and afterwards my leg muscles ached to unimaginable
extremes. after the fifth game you start to feel the
rewards: you're not as easily tired, the aching is less (it
can be reduced even more by a little stretching) and after a
rigorous game you feel like you've just taken a hit of
heroin. it's grrreat.

i love exercising.
i like military style work outs. running, push-ups, sit-ups,
jumping jacks etc.
i also like outdoorsy stuff.. hiking, mountain biking, lake
swimming, and all that fun stuff. which is neat cause i live
super close to the rocky mountains.. so it's easy.

I have to own to being a big girly quitter! I stopped doing
it when i started sleeping in. When iw as doing it it really
had me awake during the day, normally i get all sleepy like
a cat ready for a nap in the afternoons but if i had done my
8 miles i felt great all day. It seemed best when i did the
hardcore 30 min solid not breaks work out. It seemed to be
much better although at first it i was nearly sick for
overdoing it. Anyhow the revival of this thread has revived
my desire to healthy.... and sexy!

Search ebay for a 'total gym 1000'. It's a great compact
thing that uses your own body weight to work pretty much any
muscle set you want for only about 100 bucks or less
probably.
