i looked at them out of curiosity, so that was satisfying. otherwise, they seem to do a good job of summing up what swears is all about.

Sorry. These are all by a guy called Peter Halley.
My friend at work said that no one would take these paintings seriously if an unknown had made them.
Just a little experiment. I think one of his paintings has sold for $2million or something.

Lots of modern art is crap. I agree. Especially the stuff made for rich debutantes. What would Mark Ryden and that ilk be defined as? I like hsi stuff very much. I also like some modern art too. But the stuff you posted is pretty boring.

it is rubbish (imho), and a game of fashion. maybe it looks good, but it's generic and boring and unengaging. i'd rather look at a cloud, a leaf, or a bug for a more interesting design.
having been trained as an artist, and having taught art, i can say that there are millions of variations of these paintings being churned out by nobodies all across the world, and they are not being sold for millions of dollars, they are being (rightfully) sealed up in portfolios, given to parents and siblings as gifts, or burned.

only one way to be sure: everyone, bend over for an "art exam."

I have mixed feelings about Peter Halley. His stuff is very, very, "cold". Which I like.
Any criticism of his art and the market that sustains it is dismissed by him as "irrelevent."
I don't know, he is a very technical, rational guy, not at all an eccentric or passionate artist in the old mode of someone like Picasso. Which is sort of interesting.

to be fair, i'm not sure i could judge a work by looking at a 3 inch by 3 inch pixellated reproduction.
yet i judged them anyways, oops. reflexes.
what are these paintings like in person, i have no idea.

HAHA nice one fletch. I did think to myself though. "gee he's good a pop style MS paint art" I think mainly cause the colours are nice. Knowing these are canvas and not MS paint makes them a bit easier to appreciate.
