Recommend me some piano music

As the title says, i need some good piano music. I like
craig armstrong's piano works, to give you a sense of what
i'm looking for. I want something melodic and slow, but some
fast bits is also appreciated... So, please, give me
recommendations!

I'm not to familar with John Cage, but I do have a
compilation of his by the name of In a Landscape which
offers a few piano pieces of ambient grandeur.

in a landscape (title track)

and

dream

Both are instant in their beauty.

Of course there's the Classical route, but I don't know if
your ears are accustomed to it or not.

Some "instantaneous" classical that might suit your needs,
um, just off the top of my head, let's see...

There's Bach's (J.S.) keyboard transcription of Alessandro
Marcello's concerto. The last movement I'm sure you'll find
undeniable. (Concerto in D minor, BWV 974)

Bach's Goldberg Variations are just sublime. Just give them
a chance. (BWV 988)

And maybe some Janacek, Leos Janacek that is.
His "In the Mists on the Overgrown Path" piano series are
unique. Very worth giving a listen to.

Maybe I'm not seeing it, but how the hell does one purchase
the album?

Glenn Gould's Goldberg variations (one was recorded in the
50's, one in early 80's.. both are different.. this guy has
Asperger's and has a unique way of playing).

Valentin Silvestrov- Stufen is probably my favorite
piano work ever, if you don't mind having a female soprano
singing (really tastefully) over it.

some of the ambient albums by Brian Eno are real nice. The
Plateaux of Mirror, and The Pearl (featuring Harold Budd)
are both real nice.

Andrew Hill - Smokestack

Awesome early 60's quartet with piano, double bass and
drums...

Let's see...

Cage and Bach: have only "heard" 4.33 by cage, and it was
superb... so will check him out, along with bach.

Satie: have some pieces by him, they're okay, but too short

The tracks on f-com was nice, i will see if i can find them
somewhere.

Harold Budd: i have "the pearl" by him and Eno, it's really
nice, but they lack the melodic touch i'm looking for. I
also have harold budd, bill nelson & filla brazillia - three
white roses, which also is nice

Gonzales: have it already, too short songs, but it's
alright. Will check hauschka and swod!

Goldberg: haven't heard of, will check

Silvestrov: couldn't find stufen, but found some others with
a man singing (or something), wasn't that good... however,
will continue trying to find stufen

Andrew Hill: haven't found smokestack, just got "time lines"
though, guess it's some kind of "best of...", will listen to
it in a minute!

thank you all!

"Time lines" is Hill's latest recording - recorded this year
- and far from as interesting as Smockestack, that was
recorded in 1964... Time Lines is a nice - slightly dull
jazz quintet - but not the place to start listening to
Hill...

rachmaninov's 3rd and 2nd piano concertos

i'll second js bach's goldberg variations... i don't like
the harpsichord, but when they're played on the piano they
certainly do sound sublime. beautiful. murray perahia's
recording of them is quite good.

mary lou williams was a very nice jazz pianist. "Free
spirits" is a good album.

Harpsichords are the most unnerving sound to me.

And Meldo, you must have got Silent Songs, I'm not a huge
fan of the vocals on there either. I don't think you'll like
Stufen if you don't like that anyway, it's the same basic
single piano/solo voice structure but with a female soprano
instead of male tenor.

Satie is awesome of course, but people tend to forget he's
dead and therefor finds it hard to sit up at the piano.. so
you have an endless list of pianists playing his work... and
boy is some of it painful, oh man. phew. painful.
one of the best i've heard so far doing some of Satie's
works is Pascal Rogé, and one of the worst ever was Anne
Queffelec.

Yeah, it's Silent Songs by Silvestrov that I found. I will
still try to find Stufen, but I think you're right,
Ophecks.

Drukqs: you're right, the pieces on it are really good, both
piano and non piano.

Regarding www.kcinsu.com, some time ago someone posted three
files, Sonata1stmvmnt, etc., which also appears on the page
you said, they are really good.

I will definitely check the other names mentioned here,
thank you again!
