got geography a-levels on tuesday. the papers usually have really vague essays at the end like
"Tourism in any environments is likely to create as many costs as benefits. discuss this view"
and "to what extent are there inevitable conflicts between the settlement of one or more cold environments and the well-being of their natural environments and local populations?"
AAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I got an A for A level Geography. Those essays are the best questions ever. They are so vague that you can discuss so many different ideas that to get a decent mark all you need to do is learn a few case studies and you can apply them somehow.
Just make a coherant arguement, try to argue for both sides equally and juxstapose agreeing with one viewpoint with the opposing views.
Try to include as many different aspects as you can into the arguement. Physical, environmental, social, economic, etc etc
Don't spend too long focusing on one specific part, make the answer cover as many aspects as you can so the examiner thinks "hey this guy has thought about this on many levels".
conclusion is that it depends on your viewpoint if it is a good thing or a bad thing, but generally there are ways to do things better (give an example). If you can, either agree or disagree with the question/comment or state that it is impossible to give a yes/no answer.
Listen to what your teachers say about time-management and stop the short questions to start the essay ones if you're running behind, the essays are worth the marks and gives you a chance to show the examiner how clever (or not) you really are.
Good luck.

You are far more lucky than you can ever realise. Instead of choosing to do Geography A-Level like everyone told me do, I decided to study Medevil History instead and now look at the difference between us in these upcoming exams:
Q. Tourism in any environments is likely to create as many costs as benefits. Discuss.
vs.
Q. Which term better describes the development of the Catholic Church throughout the sixteenth century from Pope Paul III's pontificate: "Catholic Reformation" or "Counter Reformation"?

geography is easy as long as you have case studies and evidence to support your arguments. this is not your revision blog.
