i loved primer. watched like 6 times in just a few days to try and make sense of it. it's a fun puzzle to attempt to solve.
speaking of sci-fi, just watched MAD MAX again. i guess it's not heavily sci-fi but it does take place in a post apocalyptic future. so good. classic revenge. best end sequence in a revenge film ever.

Haha, I just watched Mad Max yesterday actually. I saw The Road Warrior on Showcase the other day so I felt like watching the first one again. Two of my favorite movies.
I personally don't really think it's post-apocalyptic, it's just society in some sort of depression... the nuclear war and actual post-apocalypse takes place between Mad Max 1 and 2. I mean, fuck... Mad Max 1 is a... pretty nice dystopia, as far as dystopias go. Pretty forests and beaches and fields. Take Toecutter and his dickheads out of the equation and life didn't look too bad.
Now, The Road Warrior really is truly a post-apocalyptic movie.
I also notice how aged Mad Max 1 is... awkward editing, weird narrative and pace, production and artistic quirks that really give away its era... and it's not just because of the low budget. Meanwhile The Road Warrior is damn near immune to the effects of time. Light years more modern feeling, even though it's only two years younger. They're both groovy though.

Yeah, primer is awesome. You should check the multiple timeline chart that some people on the official forum made, it'll help you understand it better :)
I recommend watching The Andromeda Strain and the UFO series. Brilliant sci-fi!

i agree i guess post apocalyptic is a bit harsh of a term, but it's definitely in some kind of lawless future.
i know what you are saying about it's editing/production. seems george miller really got his shit together, plus had a larger budget for his later two mad max films. but man, as for the plot progression, I really like how the first hour is pretty much all groundwork for a final 20 minutes of cold blooded revenge. And don't you think it comes accross as heavily influenced by Clockwork Orange?
I actually haven't watched Road Warrior in years... gotta get that one soon. hearing you talk about it makes me ache even more to see it. bloody netflix doesn't have it though. i'll actually have to go to a video store and rent it. ugg, leave the house for movies? ugg.

it is probably post apocalyptic tough.. only such a huge thing would affect humanity in such a way.. barren landscapes, widespread outlaws, communitie in the desert, quest for raw materials, tina turner being popular, etc.
