could you help me out with this one ?
i have two dimms of pc 2700 ddr-ram which is meant to be clocked with 333/400 mhz
i downloaded a simple diagnostics program which told me that my ram is clocke with 166mhz...
so, is the program fucked or is this a centrino related problem??
can you recommend me another diagnostics problem ??
help !

oh come on i want to buy some new memory banks because my lappy is to slow lately and this would actually solve my problem...
on the other hand i would kill the man in the pc-shop for selling me 166 mhz banks instead of 333 that i paid for

check the cpu multiplier is correctly set in bios. you may be running defaults whcih could return those figures if you were expecting more!

here's the point - i have not access to the multiplier because it's that intel speedstep technology thing...
the multiplier is changing depending on the usage of the cpu
BUT that doesn't change the fsb which is still 166

i'm clutching at straws here but it could be the speedstep what's distorting the results. can you find another benchmark utility to confirm the results?

okay that's really weird...
sisoft tells me very much and actually nothing.
but it seems like the speed is divided by the memory banks... so i have two times 166 mhz gives - 333 mhz...

i lost track of all the multipliers and double data rates ages ago so can't really shed any light on those. I know i've had unexpected results many times though because of issues like not having matched pairs or memory to get the best speeds etc.

depends which bios your pc has, some are locked down and you can't do much, but others let you play around; look in advanced>CPU or voltage settings.

most of the motherboards can't have only physical onboard switches to change the multiplier - check it in the book
okay - so i finally got the answer: now the ram fsb is 166 mhsz but as they are DDR (double rams) they have their own multiplier which makes it 333 mhz... simple

It's not double rams. It's because DDR (double data rate) technology allows data to be transferred on both the rise and fall of the clock cycle as opposed to the traditional peak only causing an effective doubling of data rate without actually increasing the actual frequency of the chips.
