Things are changing. It's a slow process and I understand your rage towards it (I have it too, I treat it with the common sense that lots of things in this world are unjustifiable). But you need to realise that things are in motion, and in our favor. Your rant alone proves your awareness of the system, many years ago the public didn't have that awareness. We live in the age of information, which is a transitional period. Less stupid cunts equals more revolt. The problem lies in the consumers lack of interest or care for the truth. That is the only thing this world of synthetic crap is banking on, our current consensus of stupidity.
Keep your head up.

i could probably ramble on for hours about crap like this. i feel the same in many respects. but what i will say is go here and watch the corporation. if you feel that strongly, get out there and do what ever you can, however how small. it might feel like pissing in the wind, but its still piss.

that's exactly it. if a problem is ignored and not discussed openly then how will it ever change

the thing that bothers me today is that majority of people are just dumb consumers that take whatever is trendy at a given moment. now, they can do whatever they want but the thing is it's impossible to live in this stupid fcuking world without having to deal with these idiots every now and then.

in that sense, ignorance is bliss. they live in a different world to us. to them everything is fine and dandy. it's when you start to think about stuff, that's when it fucks you up.

Consumerism is an extremely helpful way of life. Not only for the consumer himself but for the whole society. I think of it as a tool developed by our civilisation during the centuries that allows even the dumbest person deal with angst. If everybody was aware how miserable life really is the world wouldn't be a particularily nice place to live. You need to realize that a natural reaction to a lack of goal for most of people is not helping others but depression. If an average man couldn't see his goal in obtaining a material thing that he can actually obtain by putting in some effort the world would be a hellhole or rather we wouldn't have come this long way in the first place.
Of course it's much easier to see the bad sides and extremes of consumerism but it organises the life for all of us in such a way that it actually becomes livable. Many people get false goals and actually do something, others won't go for a bloody rampage in the recent future.
I don't see culture crumbling down and there are still millions of selfless people around the globe and actually as I look on the history of the last couple of centuries I can't help thinking that it all is going the right way (unless the imbalance of wealth distribution between the west and the rest of the world leads to a nuclear war in the close future).

so you're saying we should all be petty materialists just to give meaning and purpose to life?

Hippies always complain about the world but never use force in standing up for their rights. That's the fatal flaw of hippies.

No, if gathering material things is your idea of happiness, you are either dumb, weak enough to not be able to face the truth or just disillusioned and just buying time. If it's not your thing than you need to find some other goal and live with the fact that "stuff" is enough for most of meople and that they have it easy.

Or you can just kill yourself. Whining won't help. Doing something for the rest of humanity probably won't change anything but is as valid a goal as consuming.
Generally western society is as good as it can get at the moment. The attitudes and ways of life developed here in the course of history granted this part of the world the biggest share of wealth. If you feel that it's crap that people are starving a few thousands kilometers away, you can do something to help them. This is the benefit you gain from western world's supremacy and many ceturies of progress - you can choose. Many people don't have any choice and they just want to survive as long as they can. But mind that doing what is right won't be samaritanism, it's just another way to forget about death.
That's basicly what I think about the topic now. It will probably change as an effect of the reaper being closer and closer.

hmmm, that's sounded kind of dark so I will direct you back to the point of consumerism and other false goals being the grease of our homo sapiens machine.

Yeah, I don't know what all the whining is about. Capitalism works fine for me and the majority of people from my country. It's great, you work hard, make some money, spend it on things. Very simple, nothing severely detrimental about it. It will not cause the end of the world....
