are you going to print out some pie charts and bar graphs?

i'm more interested in how you are going to structure your
paper, and what the paper is for.

Around 4 years precisely.

Around 4 years precisely.

Boards Of Canada and Aphex Twin, as far as the "Intelligent"
part goes.

""

Intelligent Drum 'n' Bass, Synth Pop, and Cut Up.

Quicker, faster paced drum programming, and powerful,
synthesized hooks and melodies.

There are many, but most known to me are the United Kingdom
and underground indipendant music scenes of the United
Sates.

Minimal design and nice colors. :)

Yes. Commercials tend to use catchy synthesized based tunes
now-a-days, falling into the IDM category, thus helping
promote the style.

I try.

How many years have you been listening to electronic music?

About 14 years, with a hiatus of around 4 years in the
middle where I was into guitar music.

How many years have you been listening to IDM?

6-7 recently, with about 2-3 years worth when I was much
younger (listening in my elder brother's room to early 90s
warp stuff)

Who do you consider to be integral artists to consider when

describing IDM?

Aphex Twin, Boards of Canada, Plaid.

Who do you consider to be the most popular IDM artists?

Aphex Twin and Boards of Canada.

What are some of the genres you believe IDM incorporates?

I'd say IDM was more of a group of genres than a genre in
itself. There are certainly fashions regarding genres within
IDM, for example, a few years ago it was fashionable to do
ragga/jungle inspired idm.

What are some of the musical qualities you believe IDM
incorporates?

Being very very precise with your sound. It's almost as if
production is deemed more important than melody/rhythm. Lots
of short precise drum sounds, vintage analogue synth
basslines. Typically few/no vocals.

Do you believe there are any geographical “hot spots”
from
which IDM originated?

The UK. The Belgians must be credited for some of its
success though. "God bless R & S"

What do you believe constitutes IDM fashion?

Not really a fashion amongst people who listen to it. That's
part of what I like about the "scene". I've met people at
parties and had no idea they were into IDM until I got
talking to them about music. You couldn't usually say the
same for, say, hip hop or rock music.

Do you believe media coverage has significantly affected
IDM, musically or otherwise?

I think it being played on TV in adverts has helped. As has
Radiohead doing IDM-lite.

And finally, do you make music, electronic or otherwise?

Yes. Lots of different sorts, IDM, Ambient, Minimal Techno,
Trip Hop.

A lot of genres goes into IDM territory - techno, electro,
ambient, drum & bass, glitch - but none of these are
directly subgenres of IDM, in my opinion.

How many years have you been listening to electronic music?
> i can't tell... i got my first electronic music album
maybe seven years from now, but that's a rough guess. i'm
not sure at all. i wasn't listening to a lot of music at the
time anyway.

How many years have you been listening to IDM?
> since the release of drukQs... judging from the liner
notes, that makes it 5 years from now.

Who do you consider to be integral artists to consider when
describing IDM?
> Aphex Twin is the most integral, probably. Autechre is
pretty essential too...

Who do you consider to be the most popular IDM artists?
> Aphex Twin (of course), Boards of Canada, Autechre,
Squarepusher, Plaid... Venetian Snares... and the Future
Sound Of London (if they're considered idm - i'm not sure
about that).

What are some of the genres you believe IDM incorporates?
> there's "drill'n'bass" surely... then i guess "acid",
"drum'n'bass", "glitch"... maybe some kinds of techno and
ambient too...

What are some of the musical qualities you believe IDM
incorporates?
> an experimental/original quality, principally. and for
some people, maybe getting "hyper" on some really fast and
apparently complex/messed up beats; that would explain
Venetian Snares' success. but i think lately idm has been
losing its originality, doing too mu - and i'm less
interested in it than i was some years ago...

Do you believe there are any geographical “hot spots”
from
which IDM originated?
> i don't know at all.

What do you believe constitutes IDM fashion?
> i don't think there is any "idm fashion" - i can't think
of any clothes or attitude specifically related to idm
(apart from Aphex Twin t-shirts for example but that's
another story)... and it's not a bad thing.

Do you believe media coverage has significantly affected
IDM, musically or otherwise?
> yes. Aphex Twin is really well-known now, and so are the
other most well-known artists from the Warp label...

And finally, do you make music, electronic or othe
