does anybody know any good websites for jazz solo
transcriptions, particularly sax solos?

I can't find many significant hits on any search engine.

i'm looking for a transcription of John Coltrane's solo on
Bessie's Blues.

any help would be much appreciated. cheers.

the solos? aren't they normally just noted as "improvise
over the [scale]" in the sheet music?

no, i mean transcriptions as in someone has listened to the
solo and written it out on manuscript.

ah, like tabs? I can only find guitar tabs, but it's
possible that someone has transcribed it for guitar? you'd
probably just have to transpose it or sometihng, but I guess
you probably already found these files and
downloaded them?

ah, right, I guess you found it...

oh, btw, a good source for jazz sheet music are those
realbooks thingies.. you'll find them on random torrent
sites...

can you open those files? it seems I need some silly program
to open them and I don't really care enough to find it as I
don't even play guitar.. plus I may have the sheet music for
that already somewhere...

ah, ok...

btw, just in case you didn't know.. if you need tabs for
stuff, just use Tabrobot. I think it's one of the
largest tab search sites...

[irrelevant]steve vai transcribed hundreds of zappa solos.

that's worthy of praise.[/irrelevant]

steve vai would do something like that....

i saw him and Marty Friedman on a japanese show -- the host
would yell out the name of a metal song and they would have
to know it already and play it

i think somebody should take the time to make midi files out
of Cecil Taylor's entire catalog -- then my faith in
humanity might be restored....

what's the point in transcripting a jazz solo?! to be able
to play it back? sounds like fucking for virginity imho...

just because they made it up live doesnt mean its not worth
playing again

i don't think the problem is that they made it up and that
it would be robbery of "intellectual property" or something
like that, but quite the opposite: i don't think they made
it up (in the classical sense at least, but i guess that's
discussible), it specifically HAPPEND to them, and blah
blah... institutionalizing these (by (my) definition) "free"
movements doesn't sound to me like TEH SPIRIT of
improvisation, y'know... on the other hand... whatever, i
guess i'll just pull that baguette out of my ass
