i'm making a computer-based model of the system of verbs in german.
I need to know is there any pattern which weak verbs follow, regarding the change of vowels, when they are changed into past participles?
ie:
nennen -> genannt
kennen -> gekannt
but: decken -> gedeckt
does it rely on the "en" in "nennen" and "kennen"? i'm sure there are other situations in which it arises, but i can't think of them. any help would be much appreciated.

brennen - gebrannt
rennen - gerannt
but there IS actually one eception:
trennen - getrennt
i was sure until the last one that there is a pattern for it but the last one seems to break it... i'm sorry
