this one is for campfire, i've said some bad things about
it in the past here, but its really grown on me, this is an
amazing album. to those boc fans that still dont like it,
stop comparing it to other boc, anticipation only distorts
what could be a great listening experience. honestly, if
they expanded on the geogaddi sound, it would become too
convoluted to enjoy.
tch is a fine re-approach that entails great things to come.

What moved you on the first listens to Boards of Canada
Gwely?

I like it too, yes. Even if BOC themselves were to come out
and say they weren't happy with it, I'd still maintain that
is a fine album. Flawed certainly, but all the best albums
are.

Okay, it's the best album that was ever made.

the best albums are.

heeyyy.. waitaminute..

I will not be browbeaten on this. *adopts manner of Stephen
Fry (doesn't have to change that much)* What if it wasn't by
BOC, hmmm, hmmm, what then? What then would be our
thoughtlings pertaining to this collection of tracklettes? I
wonder.. hmm, mmm?
Are BOC caught in a trap of their own making that
stylistically they can't escape, as hinted at in their cover
of Colonel Abrams' "Trapped" might prove to be so .. what's
the word, ... pre-- something.

nice! :)

would you still like Stephen Fry if Stephen Fry himself said
he didn't like Stephen Fry?

I wouldn't say they're pre-conditioned stylistically, It's a
bit bleak to see an artist that way, and I know you're
joking around, I just feel the need to expand on this
seriously :)

Sure aphex surprises us with every new release, and ae gets
more and more oddly complex. But artists like boc, plaid,
gridlock, u-ziq, bola, rdevine, vnsnares, etc. have their
own unique 'shtick' if you will. And personally, I'd be a
bit pissed if they did something off their trade secret
roster.

made a new album that moved you.

yeah that last sentance was a bit harsh, what i really meant
was if they totally went off the diving board, deviating
completely from what got them into the scene. I'm sure they
could still make a great album, it would just be a bit too
leftfield for me. heh, this is coming from the guy whos
initial post states that we shouldnt compare past albums to
new ones :P
id rather be contradictory than concrete.

Sorry, I was trying to say, that because they have done
something a bit different that that may have wrongfooted
some fans and that. And one, when talking of BOC, must
consider all the "unreleased" stuff that is curiously
released, as well.

I know it's not the best BOC album, but I think it does come
in for some tough criticism.

I don't care about the change if music stays good and
welcome it if music gets better. You also do Gwely, but you
need to defend your previous statements now, don't you.
Ah, men.

Don't all new releases these days? Hate threads, love
threats, counter threads, re-affirmation threads... heh.

I think the problem with the last album is that they hardly
did anything a bit different - it's more of the same, and
then a diluted version at that. I wish they actually had
done something different.

It has too much of a "big studio" sound (see: beats) and the
melodies aren't especially exciting or outgoing. older boc
sounded like it had been recorded onto some tapes that had
been roasting on a fire for some time but miraculously made
it out in one piece (not completely unscathed). The new one
sounds like it's been pressed straight to super digital
compact disc format.

However, the sample of that new song from transcanadian
highway or whatever sounds promising.

I had a party last night and played this, some guy really
liked it and wanted to hear more, so then i put on geogaddi
and people started laughing at the voice samples..

i think it's as good as any of their other work (music..,
geogaddi) but not as exciting. and also tacky in parts.

The more I've listened to TCHP, the more it sounds like a
BoC release. It has grown on me more than I expected, but I
still don't think it's outstanding.

As Dog_belchs said, if it hadn't been by BoC and it had just
been by an unknown, or even someone like Ulrich Schnauss,
would I have listened to it enough for it to grow on me as
much as it has? No question about it: no.

really dissapointed with this album, nowhere near as good as
Geogaddi. The guitar used with the electronics could have
been good but it just sounds ameturish to me.

It's a very very good album ! Hard to come back to their
older stuff after this one, the sound here being very rich,
a lot more than in other releases. I love every album
though.
