john lennon said something cool about tracks length but i
dont remember. if somebody does, please post.

my comment is a RDJ album example: recently, my fav tracks
became corn mouth and blue calx, instead of girl/boy song,
mainly because they are short. when the track ends i do
remember it begins.

yeah nice melodies are better in short doses, that way you
don't wear them out as easily

agreed. it takes a powerful melody to sustain a long
duration, but some are just suited to smaller doses anyway.
boards of canada practically has that down to a science,
such as triangles and rhombusus, bocuma.. even roygbiv,
although even that one's pushing it.

a successful long melody usually occurs when it's one that
not obvious, per se.. or when it has a really deep texture
that takes a while to sink in. my bloody valentine's 'i
only said,' for instance. it's quite a judgment call.

Todd Rundgren - A Wizard, A True Star:
an awesome album with a lot of the tracks clocking at 1-2
minutes.

if you like the Residents (i used to like them but got bored
of them personally), there's also the Commercial
Album
: 40 tracks, 40 minutes. the "concept" was:

Point one: Pop music is mostly a repetition of two types
of musical
and lyrical phrases, the verse and the chorus.

Point two: These elements usually repeat three times in a
three minute pop song

Point three: Eliminate the excess and a pop song is only one
minute long.

Point four: One minute is also the length of most
commercials, and therefore their corresponding jingles.

Point five: Jingles are the folk music of America.

Conclusion: THE RESIDENTS' COMMERCIAL ALBUM

someone i know from another messageboard also is in a
two-people-band called The Snobs, which makes short
(and imo good) noise-pop/rock songs.

I dont think many commericals are as long as a minute.

great short songs:
BOC - constants are changing
Radiohead - I will
