POLICE CHIEF: Si! Okay, now, here is the uniform [he hands Neil the uniform] take that with you, and as you go out, watch out for the Special Branch.
[Neil walks out of the station and hits his head on a tree branch]
NEIL: I don't see what's so special about that.
TREE BRANCH: I've got a degree in Computer Science, that's what.
NEIL: Oh, yeah, that's quite special.

It's quite good; I do well academically. I've got a job that's reasonably closely related to my education and it's better than any other job I've had.
I'm still continuing my education (I study a Masters part time, Open University style) while I work. Hard to fit it in around working full time, but I still do well at it.
I may do a doctorate in a couple of years time (full time) if I get a distinction in my Masters. Ideally, I'd like to get it sponsored by a big corporation, as well as the government, so I can coin it in while I'm still technically a "student".
If I do a doctorate, when I graduate I'll probably work in a higher paid/more stressful job (which I'll actually be able to get as I'll have a decade of experience in industry, unlike someone who graduates from university at 25 with no experience of real work) for 5-10 years, pay off my mortgage and accrue a bit more money and then effectively "retire" into academia for another 15 years or so. There is absolutely no way I'm working till I'm 75 and bLiar can go **** himself if he thinks I will. I say retire into academia, because I know from experience that it is not as hard/stressful as industry and that's why they're not paid as much, hence it being an ideal way of making decent pocket money, comparatively stress free.
I chose the field I'm in because it pays reasonably well and there's enough work in the area (and the bit I'm in is still a growth industry), but also because it interests me. As a result, my job doesn't feel like slavery and I'm not clock-watching every ten seconds (I've been in jobs where I have)
People who study (and have no interest in the field) just to get a good job are pretty tragic IMO. They invariably don't do well, not to mention that studying something you are bored with is about 10x harder than studying something you like. Likewise, studying "impractical" subjects that you can't get a job in (other than teaching it) would be fun, but I don't see why the taxpayer should foot th
