Very very basic music tech

Very basic music tech question, one so simple that I'm
almost embarressed to ask:

I've got an sh-101 and want to plug it into my stereo mixer.
It has a mono out, but when you connect this to either L/R
of any channel on the mixer the sound only comes out of that
side of the speakers. Trying to pan it only fades it out. Is
there a cable/connector that is the reverse of those "2 into
1" connectors you can get? Is there some other way I can get
it to appear on both channels without modifying the gear?

I know I should know this, but I've just realised I've never
had mono gear connected to a stereo mixer, outputting to a
stereo amp before (only to my mono mixer, or the stereo
mixer outputting to a mono PA)!

Thanks in advance.

You may be able to get a mono splitter adaptor that puts the
same mon signal to both left and right. Or wire one
yourself. Best to get a mixer with some mono inputs though.

i got something like this:

costs maybe a dollar in a bigger electro market - got mine
in media-markt.

i use it mainly to play traktor from my laptop which has
just a simple stereo out - i connect a jack-chinch
connector to my pc and then two of those to every chinch and
to the mixer so i can make external mixing

Yes, I've got 2 mic channels on the mixer, it's just that
the FX routing on the mixer only allows "Post", rather than
"Pre" and "Post" like the 'normal' channels. I could take
the FX chain out and connect it in series, but then I
obviously wouldn't be able to apply it to the other
channels, as I can currently.

A signal splitter would work...

It's a PMC-270A (Effectively a PMC-275 in modern terms). I
know it's a DJ-oriented, rather than studio mixer, but by
chaining my other mixers into it, I have more than enough
channels currently, so don't really want to shell out on
another mixer right now for this. I probably will get a
dedicated studio mixer in the next couple of years, so I'm
just looking at a temporary solution until then (I'll
probably make something up by connecting one of those
splitters like you posted a picture of with some phono->jack
plugs on the end).

I think I will. :)

Unabomber; yep, I'll probably get one of those and just
stick the relevant connectors on the end (I've probably
already got one in my wires box). I was just wondering if
anyone had seen ones like that with 1/4" jack (guitar style)
on all 3 ends already (for marginally better sound quality,
aesthetics and to avoid tying up too many bits)?

why not make something like this for your own ?

i mean soldering isn't THAT difficult.

I can't find it! And never seen one...
How strange...
It MUST exist!

Anyway, sure somebody will build them for you.

I also hate those conector-adapter-splitter-cable-adapter
chains...

how you want it!

ceri: tell me what happens when you plug a normal headphone
plug into the sh 101 ? does only one side of the headphones
play ?

because maybe it doesn't mather that it's mono and when you
put in a stereo cable it will play on both channels ?

Sadist: What's quite odd is that via headphones, it comes
out of both ears. I think a stereo 1/4 jackplug/wire may do
the trick.

Sheffield Bleep: Cool, I'll have to make enquiries. I asked
about this in Maplins before and they just told me to buy
the bits and make it myself.

you're right - so you don't have to make stupid cable
chains. if it comes out of both ears it means that the plug
in the sh-101 is giving the same signal.

so depending on what plug you need for your mikser you just
need a simple jack-jack or jack-chinch cable and it shoul do
the trick
