Sell all your cd's

Would you?

I have been debating it, but the ffort of listing and
posting them aside im not sure i could part with them. They
are nice too look at and people who just rip them, well then
you have to sit at a computer to listen to them, you cant'
lend em to a mate or put ti on the cd player downstairs..

i wish i could sell em i would prolly make a fair few quid.

i never listen to my cds..i'd probably keep all my aphex and
autechre ones, but appart from that i couldn't care less.
and that means i don't give a flying fug about a lot of
music :)

i dont listen to mine loads but still its kinda like some
mental thing that wont let me sell them, maybe its just a
lack of trust for harddrives.

i couldn't do it, cd's may not be permanent but they're more
stable than cdr or a hard drive. i think of the collection
as a library, i'd rather see it expand.

oh, i know what you mean..i've never sold a cd, not even the
worst one that i would never ever listen to. but, i don't
think it'd be that difficult to get rid of them now if i
needed to..

I went through a phase of trying to sell them (to pay for
vinyl), but when I realised what insultingly low prices I
was getting for absolutely mint condition ones (£1 at most
stores), I stopped. I don't buy many CDs now. Mostly vinyl
and if something's CD only I feel little guilt in just DLing
the MP3s, but if I listen to it often I'll buy a copy.

i go through phases, too. i might not listen to any
stereolab for a year, then listen to them a lot for a month.
i'd hate to say "i haven't listened to this for ages, i'll
sell it", and then later wish i still had the cd. i suppose
it make a difference that i generally don't pirate music, so
i don't have a soulseek library.

I downlaod alot of albums but everything i downalod that i
really liek i walways buy it on cd. I tend to downlaod an
album if i really like it then i will go out and buy it on
cd.

I am starting to think maybe i should sell them because as
much as i love them as some sort of ego display (hey check
me out with my cool taste) its kinda silly. If there was a
way i could keep them and not have to do it via a risky
external HD i prolly would sell them. 250 cd's £2 each =
500 quid

i gave one cd away (it was a metallica cd that i ahted) and
i felt bad even for that. I mean i still have blink 182 and
sum41 from when i was a youngen and parting with them would
be just as hard as parting with one si actually listen to.

hmm, i wouldnt sell mine. not even bad ones.. just cant the
point in getting some cds and selling them...

when i cant make a decision on something, a good way to
decide what to do is to think which option i would regret
more.
in your case. selling all of your cds...

its mental though, i have some cd's that i havent even
listened to yet. I bought a few classics that i had on mp3
but was missing form my actual cd collection such as mogwai
- young team, faith no more - angel dust. I havent played
the actual cd of either.

same with me. i don't even know why i still buy cds, i think
it may be for when im old or something, for the memories
perhaps, dunno really. im really shit with music listening.
i'd download or buy an album, usually give it one quick
listen, meaning skip through parts of tracks and just move
to a new album, sucks really, but i can't get out of the
loop. im thinking i might miss something out, something real
brilliant or something. here and there it happens i find
something i really enjoy and then i normally listen to it a
few more times, but even that passes quite quick..

out of selling your cds than keeping em for whatever
reason...
then sure. sell them (dunno about ALL of them tho)

I got rid of a few vintage eurodance records when I was an
angsty teen who wanted to hide my musical background.

I regret it now.

computerr stuff and i'd be mildly annoyed if i had to go out
and buy a CD forr £12 that i'd sold forr 2 when i decided
i'd like to hearr it again.

Ha ha, I let my elder brother bin a lot of early 90s warp
and rave records because I was "not into dance music
anymore" and instead, liked wanky guitar music for a couple
of years? Everytime I hear LFO - LFO it's like a kick in the
teeth.

fuck that! my CDs are going whereiver I go! whenever i
download anything, i put it on CD and print a pretty cover
for it, call it obsessive (which it is) but i love having a
complete discography of every artist i like all in one
place. at the moment they are all just in a pile on the
floor - all ~450 of them - too many for the cabinet i used

I must agree with r40f, plaidzebra, and the other old
fashioned folks here.. I can't imagine ever selling a CD.
Please don't sell your CDs unless you are truly dying of
starvation. Otherwise it'd be like selling a piece of your
soul.. it's not an ego display.. I mean, maybe you'd like it
to be but I've found that nobody really cares anyway. It's
for YOU. These are the closest you'll get to tangible
memories long after those ephemeral mp3's vanish into the
digital void.. after say the 3,000th hard drive crash in
2050. What ever happened to good ol' commodity fetishism? I
browse in awe over my parents' decaying vinyl collection..
it's amazing, it's like a time capsule. Trust me, you're
going to want them later.

CDs mean precious little to me now, I only really buy new
ones to be a good citizen, I never listen to them and
they're just useless slabs of plastic to me. But I'd never
sell the ones I already have, I'm a packrat by nature. Be it
I Mother Earth, Moist, or the Presidents of the United
States of America, I'll never sell that shit. I save
everything, every magazine I've ever had, every toy I used
to get from McDonalds.

CDs just don't have a mystique about them though. Although
I'm saving them, I doubt they'll mean much to me when I'm
older, I'll probably regret dropping so much cash on them.
They're ugly and the packaging is tacky. Records are better
in that sense, I like the big sleeves and the ambience that
wafts off the vinyl.

I couldn't sell my favourite CDs, but I could without regret
give some (I've got some bullshit) CDs or even vinyls to
friends. I don't listen to CDs a lot, becuz I usually prefer
listening to mp3s : that's just becuz i'm lazy and don't
wanna get up from my chair and go and take the Cd in the
cupboard. It's not the same with vinyl : it's always funny
to watch them spin. =) But perhaps it's becuz i've had a
turntable only for 8 months now...

Anyway your CDs will go to your children probably, and
they'll be glad to be able to listen to awesome music, so
please don't prevent them for blasting hard-to-find aphex
albums in 2030 !!

For those who don't want children or can't get laid, then
maybe you could give all your musics to poor children once
you're dead.

It's wierd how we hold on to things as if letting them go
might mean the we will forget about them. It's a constant
denial of the impermenance of life. It's all fleeting.

I really wish I can sell ALL my cd's one day before I
die, even the few vinyl I have, because when I die probably
my family will throw all my stuff in the dump (or sell them
for $20 the whole lot), so I prefer to spend the (few) money
obtained in some bars in Thailand

if I ever had kids (wich I doubt), probably they will
download the flac version of the stuff I used to listen to,
they will look at cd's (and the rest of the phisical media
formats) as useless pieces of plastic that only served to
make bigger the polution of this world

after all, I keep buying cd's... a very hard to get rid of
habit

music becomes an immediate emotional attachment. you will or
will not throwaway cds or albums dependant on how where when
and or with whom you first heard the music. apart from the
fact this will vary from person to person anyway depenadant
on their own experiences and hence own subjective view of
the world, there is also the possibility that this process
can be triggered subconciously (not unconsiously, note the
difference).

either way however you meant it, it's a completely pointless
question if you regard it as a positive sharing experience
comparing like with like to gain specific information, or if
you meant it as a spotaneus expression of your personality,
in order to sustain your credos within the virtual arena of
a user defined finite space and time within the company of
similar minded people almost ironically having only one
specific thing in common.
