try Goldwave but you have to download a mpeg encoder thingy from their site to .
http://www.goldwave.com/
Its a very good and simple program. You can open mp3s and fuck around with them as it was a wave file.

oh...in file options change the temporary storage to RAM instead of HARDISK so that large files open faster.
