Videogames and Music

Videogame music is pretty awesome. I especially like the
SNES era music. Yup. So I fucked around with some MIDIs and
used Synful to apply classical instruments to these
golden compositions, and it all sounds pretty neat.

Here is a song from FF6:

Edgar & Sabin

Zelda 2: Link:

Town

Zelda - Link to the Past:

Death Mountain

Castlevania IV:

Level I

Mega Man:

Wily's Level

The instruments are all synthesized from physical modelling,
no samples. I think it sounds alright. Are there any more
videogame tracks which you think would fit this treatment?

That CV4 one is awesome and rousing, nice job. That's the
2nd best 16 bit soundtrack ever for me. CV Bloodlines for
Genesis could really benefit from this kind of treatment, I
haven't heard many alternate versions of those tracks...
awesome compositions but sometimes the Genesis soundchip
just wasn't up to snuff. At least CV4 had fairly realistic
piano/percussion/bass/organ sounds.

chrono cross has some awesome musics, but that already
sounds good in the game, so...

Well, this died fast!

Ophecks: The Genesis FM soundchip just had a different
"feel" to it, I won't say it's worse... Very charming. I'm
thinking of doing more Castlevania 4, but I'm not quite sure
about which tunes to do. Another side-effect with doing this
is I'm just torn between doing music and actually sitting
down with the games.

FFVI has one of the best video game soundtracks ever - i try
to listen to "Dancing Mad" at least once a month, in its
entirely. truly a classic. Uematsu is brilliant - the Black
Mages version isn't so bad, but it lacks those awesome
SNES-operatic-vocal modulations which make the original so
groundbreaking and technology-pushing.

I also always loved the music for Chrono Trigger, Secret of
Mana, Super Mario RPG and Phantasy Star IV - really great
stuff.

oops, didn't read.... hmmm....

how about Laughter from Phantasy Star IV? i've always liked
it, i think a guitar mod could work for it. Also, try the
Castle theme or the Field theme from Shining Force II.

Staz, the links doesn't seem to work.

It's not from the SNES-era, but give the Metal Gear
Solid-theme a try.

And why not Bubble Bobble? That'd sound hilarious as an
orchestra.

Hmm ...

I've always liked the music to Shadow Gate (NES).
Give that one a try.

Haha, and Snake Rattle n' Roll (NES).

Definetely more Mega Man-tracks.

Uh, let's see ...

Damn, can't think of more for the moment. :D

resistance was good too. will post a link to tunes and
player when i get the chance. considering what tools they
had at the time, some of the songs are (still) amazing!

Thunder Force/Herzog Zwei/everything by Technosoft on the
Genesis, those guys were brilliant. Loved the heavy riffs in
Thunder Force 4. TF3 wailed too.

''There is No Time To Lose'' from Herzog Zwei, heart palpitations

Star Fox 1 had a kickass mondo edgy soundtrack, shame the
rest of the series couldn't follow suit.

Synful sounds really good.

I'm having a hard time believing this is actually a computer
doing this. If no one would have told me, I'd assume this
was a real recording.

The link above supposedly took the person 35 mins to make!

"Take a listen to this example which I made in 35 minutes
after installing the program, and be aware this is literally
doodling around, improvising, with no editing."

Is it easy to use? What do I need to know? Did you buy it?

I need this program. It's as simple as that. :D
