from? what does it mean?

ezkerrrrer....whatever is a Basque word, i think.

offline impakt from where we do not speak of! on 2006-04-09 06:29 [#01875569]

I chose it when I started playing quakeworld many years ago,
it was originally impact of course, but the Q letter in the
quake-font is displayed like the quake-logo so it looked
cool in-game and therefore I changed to impaqt.

But I got tired of impaqt and then changed to impakt.

plaid the pattern plus zebra the horse-like creature with
black and white streak stripes, i thought it was an amusing
image, a zebra with a plaid pattern instead of b&w stripes.
turns out people either think it's dumb, or imagine a
support garment for the heaving manbreasts of musicians
plaid.

hindsight is 20/20...

Kurdel a.k.a Osmiol a.k.a. QRDL a.k.a. miastodont is an
animal size of a city from one of Stanislaw Lem's (RIP)
novels. Their stomachs were once inhabited by natives of a
planet which name I don't remember. Sadly they ended as game
for tourists and were hunted for with nuclear bombs. I am
also fairly large a person. That's all.

A good Autechre track. it's so terribly uncreative. If I
had known I was going to pour countless hours into this
place over 4 years I probably would have made up something
more original.

My name used to be Organ Grinder, not after the M.Manson
song but after the character in Mutant League Hockey who
dropped the puck into the arena between periods. I changed
it to Oddioblender because Organ Grinder was too boring, and
some people were already using it.

I was originally going to go by Audioblender, but i wanted
to do a play on words, i was thinking of the name Odd Joe or
something, then a friend suggested from that i go for
Oddioblender and just tie the two together. So it stuck, or
not. I've gone by this for three or four years now though,
so that's history.

Its my old screen name that I don't use anywhere else. Its
suposed to represent taking something that was dead, and
trying to give it the appearance of life, like memories,
cities, most people, stuff like that. It was also a metaphor
for making sampled music, as well as what I felt I had
become after my last girlfriend broke up with me. Look into
rogue taxidermy, which was one of the variations I used back
in my mp3.com days.

The current name I use is taxis, which is the
theraputic/surgical art of manipulating the skin and bones
prior to surgery. I like it because its somewhat morbid, but
its also an important step towards healing, which is a
constant theme of who I feel I am. An interesting note, is
that taxis is also the term given to the movement of various
things like chemicals and small animals through modulation
by things like light or sound. The wordplay is pretty
obvious :)

What I don't like about the name Taxis, is everything think
its taxi, like taxicab, and thats pretty lame. If I could
find something else with enough hidden meanings that work
artistically and personally, I will change it.

same here man, haha. I was in a hurry to find out a song
name from an aphex track I heard at a friend's house (the
filename didn't list the song name just "aphex twin" and
some random numbers/letters that I couldn't decipher. The
song turned out to be "On," and upon later inspection i
noticed that it WAS in the file name, just surrounded by so
much crap that I couldn't see it.

But yeah, Zephyrus is the Roman "god of the west wind"
sometimes personified as a gigantic hawk-like creature,
which I think is pretty cool. I think we all know where twin
came from.
