Just as becoming accustomed to a vegetable diet side by
side with meat converted wild cats and dogs into the
servants of man, so also adaptation to a meat diet, side by
side with a vegetable diet, greatly contributed towards
giving bodily strength and independence to man in the
making. The meat diet, however, had its greatest effect on
the brain, which now received a far richer flow of the
materials necessary for its nourishment and development, and
which, therefore, could develop more rapidly and perfectly
from generation to generation. With all due respect to the
vegetarians man did not come into existence without a meat
diet

-Friedrich Engels, The Part played by Labour in the
Transition from Ape to Man

Hmmm. Veganism is fine and all, but the human body is
designed to require certain nutrients that meat and meat
products give you. Thats why you hear of 3 year olds vegans
dying and things like that.

A vegan diet isn't much different from the atkins diet, as
far as I am concerned. Its all fine if you like shit like
that, but I wouldn't suggest it to anybody, because you end
up starving your body of things it needs.

That said, I am not a nutritionist.

vegan is absolutely fine and dandy when done right. problem
is its really easy to not get enough protein and all the
vitamins you lack from not eating meat, and thus stupid
people shouldnt be vegan.

on second thought, yes, all stupid people should be vegan,
because then theyll all starve themselves to death. yay!

offline Q4Z2X on 2006-04-08 16:47 [#01875317]

it's very difficult to not get enough protein on a vegan
diet if you eat 2000 calories a day... unless you are eating
a shitload of bleached flour or candy.. or are only eating
fruit and protein-less vegetables or something.

numerous studies have shown that populations who get too
much protein, especially from animal sources, are generally
much less healthy than those that eat the bare minimum
amount.
Most foods with high amounts of protein also contain high
amounts of fat, and the fats found in plant-based protein
sources are much less toxic and easier to break down. In
fact, those preaching a vegetarian/vegan diet should stress
the avoidance of animal fats, rather than the avoidance of
any and all animal products.

also, the only vitamin lacking from non-animal based foods
is B12, which is something completely crucial, so naturally
it's not mentioned much by vegatable-arians.

there are substitutes for meat but most people going

sick.

i don't eat meat at all, and avoid dairy products somewhat,
i think it is wierder to drink milk than it is to eat meat:
nature has lots of examples of animals eating meat- and
really non of animals drinking milk past babyhood, let alone
milk from ANOTHER animal- its just fucked up.

but milk ingredients are used in many things and i dont
incessantly read labels or anything, and ive been known to
have a slice of pizza everyonce and a while.

I came across a superb foodstuff yesterday at a garage. It's
like one of those "microwave burgers that normally come out
damp and inedible", but this was a bacon and sausage roll in
one and included a satchet of brown sauce. I was expecting
the worst, but it was as good as one from a burger van. Only
99p too.

I have vegetarian months when the bank account runs dry. I
would rather buy alcohol and drugs than eat meat. Vegan is
too far though. Not eating cheese is bad for you, even if
you are lactose intolerant you NEED a certain amount of
stilton. And pototoes are bad for you.
The only food that has a perfect balance of yin and yang is
brown rice. Go zen?

have some brown sauce on it, natch.)

Well Jessy, I've tried vegetarianism almost 3 years ago. I
was for 1 year and a half. Let me tell you, it was one of
the best things I did. I never felt tired or sleepy when
eating vegetarian food. On the contrary, I always felt
filled with energy and ready for everything. I really loved
it. Unfortunately, I broke my almost perfect vegetarian diet
:''( And, even though, I don't eat much meat, I eat mostly,
seafood, chicken breast, salads. But, still, I would like to
come back with that diet, It really made me feel very good.
The one positive thing O did was, quit smoking =)

I wish you good luck on your veggan diet. For me, vegetarian
is enough, I dont think can't try veggan because is to
strict for me.

I think it's probably the fact vegetarians eat more
vegetables (doye) than how they avoid meat that makes them
feel better. I am an ominvore and have plenty of energy.

There was this spiritual nub (aka: fundamentalist christian)
I used to work with who went vegan because of the
commandment "thou shall not kill". He ended up getting sick
from lack of vitamins and shit. Fag.
