Audio Interface Reccomendations

I want to expand my I/O and am looking for audio interfaces
with at least 8 ins. Does anyone know of some (relatively)
cheap models? Firewire or USB2 is fine.

i was gonna recommend the m=audio quattro untill i got to
your "8 ins" specification.

the quattro has well, you can guess probably how many ins.

it's good though, i like it.

what kind of OS are you running?

i'm on a powerbook g4 17" and i'm using the MOTU 896HD... i
have never experienced more bang for my buck than i have
with this beast of a sound card/processor. it is fucking
amazing for under $1,000

I just found out about the TASCAM FW-1804. Looks like an
excellent value.
Sweetwater

How the fuck does it include cubase LE? Its non-digidesign
heathen hardware.

Quoth:
I am running Tiger on my PB 12" and XP on my other. There's
a MOTU 828mkII at my school and I really like the feel and
sound of it and the 869HD has some serious I/O. Just a bit
over my price point tho

the tascam was my other option i wanted to get... but i
didn't want to be tied to cubase or tascam... tascam makes
great dat machines... that's what i know them for... plus i
love working with digital performer 4... it's the most
stable recording software i've dealt with and the 896hd can
be linked like an infinite number of times... in fact i'm
planning on getting another one, to make 16 analog xlr/1.25"
ins & outs simultaneously at 192kbps and ooh yeah... i just
wish i made decent beats and melodies that other people can
enjoy as much as i do and make a dollar or two off of the
crap i pump out. enough rambling... ahhhhahh

find reviews on device drivers for it before you buy.
crappy drivers quite honestly make or break a device, no
matter how great it looks.

Do you want simultaneous channel recording, or just
multiple ins routed through to one stereo channel? If you
just want multiple ins then you can buy a decent mixer for
about $300, that gives you your eight channels, and doesn't
force you to choose behringer. Otherwise, you are going to
have to spend at least 800-1000 for the multiple channels.
Do not, I repeat do not take the behringer or m-audio
route.
That is too much of an investment just to end up
breaking down after 1-2 years.

After the debacle of my cabletech thread I just ordered one
of these
Seems to do all I want. And it didn't cost the $799 listed
there. It only cost half that.

But if you want something cheap and firewire, behringer just
released a 2 in 2 out firewire audio interface that costs
$70.

I can guarantee you about 2 months of good use before that
puppy starts to give you a defening hiss in the right
channel and cuts out after playing 20 seconds of audio
causing you to restart your computer.

I have the firebox, same stuff but wíth less i/o i think.
Im very happy with how "plug and play" it is, no problems at
all, starts up properly, if you rip the firewire cable out
it stops working, put it back in and it works again. I also
think the preamps sounds very clean and they are very usable
imo (but then again, i dont have allot of experience in
preams.) If the headphone out is the same you will be
guaranteed allot of power, 3 steps up on the headphone knob
makes it "load" with my akg 55ohm's. AND it feels high
quality, and it works really well with low latency, at least
on my comp.

likewise. fantastic bloody unit.

i was going to suggest the firepod, but i know there's
"cheaper" devices out there. you've made a very good
choice!
