Aphex Twin doesn't like them and isn't releasing anything
else on them. I think []pusher feels the same way.

do they treat the artists badly or something?
....dont respect artistic integrity or something like that?

afx said he doesn't like any of the warp artists outside
himself and squarpusher.

I think it's a money issue and that the artists feel that
too much money goes into promotion so it becomes too
commercial instead of fun...

Well we (consumers) don't get to have that funny anyway so
fuckit, I'm going to support anybody who produces good music
no matter how "commercial" they get.

warp has been very important for good music...but really i
dont know about the problem with afx or sp... i ll have to
inform myself... anyway i just want afx to release something
no matter where

I agree, Warp is still one of my favourite recordlabels. But
for artists, I can imagine that the promotion can become
very tiresome after a while...

Warp isn't all that commercial anyway, they have been a very
good balance between being a record label that actually gets
music distributed, while not being too big or so small very
few could hear the music... what the hell do you want?

... so what is the reasoning, if you are any good, you are
not aloud to make any money at all... this argument is
bizarre

I don't care about record labels. I don't care how
''commercial'' they are, how they promote their artists. As
long as the artists put out good stuff, I couldn't care
less.

Of course, I'm not on a record label, and I'm not an artist,
so I don't know what goes on behind the scenes... RDJ must
have his reasons for wanting out. I wonder how his new label
is going to do... and when that bastard is going to put out
some new AFX on it!

Warp's got too much good stuff and too many good artists on
to just ditch..heck their back catalogue should keep me
happy for years..

i hold no grudge against Warp, who, in fact, signed my
favorite artists. i'm not up to date on their attitudes,
tho.
i wonder how Nothing is doing.

offline pachi from yo momma (United States) on 2002-03-05 00:04 [#00111801]

but the thing is, why judge artists for their record labels
and vice versa, unless you've had personal experience with
that industry?
it also seems silly ImO when bands/artists convey their
message based on the label to which their signed to; No
Limit, for example.

i think Nothing is pretty much a dead label now...

it may simply be a case of rdj getting arrogant.

well well my little twiglets, you seem to have missed a
major point: aphex is a famed lier/ manipulator of the
press: he is usually taking the piss by critisizing warp and
stuff: if he really didn't like them he would've released
drukqs fuckin years ago (remember the old memo on the warp
site that said we should expect a new aphex double-album
before THE MILLENIUM!!! even then it was a delayed release,
having being pencilled in for ages before that) and pissed
off. he still has one more album for warp under the terms of
his contract so he doesn't seem in too much of a hurry.

if you actually read the interviews with more credible
publications, which are a lot harder to find on the net you
would see that he admitted that he has no problem with warp
cos he has total control. if you believed everything that
aphex said you would believe that he is squarepusher (made
that claim), that mike p is a twisted pervert, that all the
voices on the girl/boy ep are computer generated, that he
has a 2 foot cock and that he owns part of elephant and
castle underground station.

take his words with a large pinch of salt, but just for the
record squarepusher has never said he hated warp but has
said that he isn't into most of their current artists except
for afx, boc (cos their music exists in its own little world
outside of time and reality, or something like that, and ae
cos it is the"music of the future". he loves frequencies by
lfo as we all know.

aphex says that he really likes boc but he doesn't get
excited by them: that is why he didn't sign them to rephlex
when he had the chance, which he said is his biggest musical
regret.

i don't think there could be hate for warp when the are so
artist orientated

btw the disgruntled fans bit is mainly cos their output is
not as good as it once was (97 is a golden year and if you
take a look at the last couple of years in comparison you'll
see what i mean).
it is not that we are tired of warp, cos i will put the
older stuff on every day but the newer releases generally
aren't too good (notice the generally bit) especially with
regards to their newer signings

if it weren't for warp records, i would not even be
purchasing music... i'd probably be reading more often or
wasting my money on horror films

i don't really care if afx likes the label.
its just a label. it isn't a nation or satan.

i'll still be buying shit from warp five years from now.

what i care mostly about are the artists themselves, because
they are humans and implement talent, while record labels
are profiting organizations.

I could care less if RDJ made the discs in his bastment
(come to think of it... that would be pretty cool).... I
would still buy them. I see know reason in likeing of
dislikeing warp... there just the lable... The music is what
im after.

generally when you look at indie labels the good ones have a
lifespan of about 10 yrs. so WARP seems to be just about do
for their downfall. Now I'm not predicting anything but
just judging from their last couple of signed artists (with
the exception of Prefuse73 who roxors) they seem to have
lost their ability to be effective talent scouts. I enjoyed
the Brothomstates albums but, c'mon, that was just Autechre
rehashed. Whereas we've got Planet-Mu signing really great,
innovative artists all the time. I just think they've lost
their knack basically. I'll be surprised to see anyone
worthwhile, besides the good artists already signed, to come
out from warp. Not that I don't like them or anything cause
they've had some great releases and some great artists on
their label, they just seem like they've lost it for the
most part.

Warp are pushing RDJ pretty much when it comes to promoting
his music, right?
