Mastering tracks for CA$H

I have an MP3-LP coming up, it needs to be ready for April
Fools day (Ape Rules Fools Day) (that's the first of April,
just to be clear), but it still sounds a tad ropey. Why,
because I lack even basic audio equipment, I've absolutely
no idea what the tracks sound like... at all. It's all done
on instinct.

Do you do mastering? Do you accept cash? It's six
tracks need doing (the others are either done or too short
to worry about). What do you say?

Just to reiterate:

Needs doing within a week.
I can pay.

You can contact me via my EMAIL ADDRESS or you can post
pictures of that man playing the bass recorder or whatever
Internet-funny thing that is.

what the hell is an MP3-LP?

and could it perhaps be called something snazzier, like say,
an MLP3?

I don't know, MP3-LP I thought was more honest than "album".

btw, you were a fine one criticising my speed of replying
e-mails, mister..

ask Peeps, I bet he'll remaster any old bit of audio you can
find for you into perfect aural clarity for the good sum of
no money. he's just like that. unless he recently went
private.

No, they are a selection of MP3s designed to be listened to
in order, like some impoverished facsimile of the album
form, reduced to just poor quality sound files labelled
sequentially.

I can give it a go and if you like the sound of it we can
discuss payment when it's done, if you're up to that ?

I got so confused trying to reply I gave up, but I'm still
working on it, the email that'll turn into a book that'll
become another failed dream that will lead to my untimely
doom.

I was thinking about this recently, how you could albeit
only slightly make people listen to your music in order if
it's mp3ified.

the best thing to do would be to make it into one long mp3,
I think. sure, people can still chop it up, but the initial
way you offer it is the way you'd like people to listen.

I'm being deadly serious. you can tell because I haven't
attached any funny or "funny" internet picture.

it was a very emotional e-mail, I'll grant you that.

I understand, I shouldn't push you, or I'll only push you
further away!

let's have a "funny" internet picture to lighten things up a
bit LOL (which doesn't mean the aforementioned things
weren't meant in earnest):

I think new id3 tags have the option to specify which # a
track is and how many there are in total.. at least itunes
does this, and if you press play on the first, you'll get
them in proper order.. if you're talking about people
skipping tracks and going straight to their fav, that's not
a new thing with mp3.. you can just as easily do that with
tapes, vinyl, cds, minidiscs or bass recorders.

yes, I know, but most people won't get off their ass to chop
up an mp3, I'd bet.

it's more about the idea.

something MASTERED.

Yes.

Actually, I'm just curious.

I will pay and all what I've heard from Impakt is of a very
high quality, and he's a lovely lad which is most important.
The big question is would he want to have anything to do
with something as slipshod as my old musical detritus...
that's the real.. issue.

Thank you, payment isn't really the biggest issue though
seeing as I'm currently in the starting-phase of my
studio-career. I just need to do things to get more
experience and improve.

If you use msn we could talk over the kind of sound you're
going for and transfer the tracks.

i'm not trying to start anything with you and you have
nothing to prove to me, i'm just wondering if you actually
can master audio or if you just thought you'd give it a
shot. because it takes a lot of training to do a good
mastering job - you have to have an ear for it. not to
mention a whole bunch of different speakers and a proper
room. then you spend hours getting it exactly right. it's
a serious and demanding job...

I just wanted to steer clear of any discussion really. But
yes, I have not so vague idea of what to do and what not to
do. I've done a lot of reading and practicing, but I have no
education to back it up.

That's why I offer to do the actual work first and let
clients pay me IF they like what they hear, if they don't
then no charges what so ever :)
