writing music for girls

is it a bad idea? i seem cursed by doing it, whenever i
write a song for a girl, it seems to curse us about 70% of
the time. i'm pretty sure i could compile an album worth of
music i have written for girls.

i just finished a 40-minute cd today of music i wrote for a
female friend of mine who is going through drama and
personal strife, that i have dubbed "Catharsis." it is all
synths, no drums or timbre, just four tracks, each hovering
around ten minutes a piece, just pure ambient.

anyways, i'm thinking it's a bad idea to write music for
people you care about, but maybe i'm wrong. people tend to
inspire me though. in fact, soon i will write a song for my
favorite listener, mr. lee schulster! :D

it's a good idea to make the music, but it's not necessarily
appropriate to actually give it to the person or tell them
about it.

no, you're right. when you write music "for" anyone or
anything - you usually compromise, don't you. well, the more
writers - the more approaches to writing. right.

Its I nice idea to write music for people. It can make them
uncomfortable, because that is quite a thing to do for
someone. Usually its best to let them hear it, and have a
copy of it, without telling them its for them. Then the
pressure and encroaching uncomfortableness is gone.

a cock. Ive given a girl music who thought it was for her
when really I was just showing off my best tracks. eep

Generally a bad idea. But writing music about girls in
general seems to be a good idea.

i couldn't make one of my fucked up electronic shit tracks
thinking "it's for my sylwia". i sure can make her some mix
cds of some cool tracks every few months, .....but
experimenting with some shit mad beats and in the meantime
thinking "she will like it" ?? it's too much i think.

I wrote an entire EP about a girl I was infatuated with in
high school (she was in junior high though). I never told
her about it, although I gave copies to some of my friends.
Sometimes certain people can be very inspiring, although I
find it's usually times and places that are most
inspirational.

I so agree with r40f in this situation.... you can write
about people, but does anyone need to know who what song is
about ?

i feel like writing music "for" girls is a scummy thing to
do. i mean, it's a bit narcistic isn't it? you're giving
her this song, expecting that she loves music and that music
means the world to her like it does to you, and maybe she
would rather be treated like a full on human with thoughts
and the need for regular human to human talking and
feedback. writing songs for someone is totally impersonal
and doesn't address them as a human. it's fine to write
songs "about" people and inspired by people, but your target
audience has to be more then one person. if someone came to
me claiming that they wrote this one song JUST for me and
that I should appreciate it, my initial reaction would be
like, "fuck off i'll listen to the music I want to listen
to." what i'm saying is just because you two click and all
that doesn't mean they're gonna dig you're songs and stuff,
songs aren't personal like that... what the fuck am i
saying? i guess writing a song "for" someone is just a
silly romanticized idea. if it works for you and her then
great, though i would never see it working for me.
