Check this doc out, if you can. He makes a motor bike trip around the world with his friend. Really wonderful. I can say with out a doubt Ewan is that rare person that I think would be one of my closest friends. He really is quite hilarious. Really humorous person. Catch the doc if you can.

He reminds me of a couple people I've met in life that just have that element about them. When they walk in the room the energy shifts toward them. They are extremely dynamic. That "it" factor, if you will. Not like an attractive thing. Or some gay thing, but everyone does want to fuck them usually. Regardless, its a good show.

I guess it takes seeing people in their natural self like a documentay as opposed to a film. Cause I never noticed anything special about Ewan from his films.

I hated the new Star Wars. I'm not a huge Mark Hamill fan, and he doesn't seem that charismatic, but they were worlds better than the new ones.

Back on topic:
Yeah, it's great I've got the DVD and an extra disc with unseen material. Really, really good. I'm in the queue to borrow the book of it of a mate.
It's positive, uplifting stuff and they even manage to include the charity bits without it being cheesy or preachy. A few people in the overlanding (crossing vast expanses of land, typically without decent roads, on a motorcycle) community slate them for doing it like celebrities (IE brand new kit/bikes, snap-on tools, support team, getting special treatment and staying in hotels/people's houses that normal people wouldn't be able to) rather than (as you can do on a bike) doing it anonymously and without hype and only talking about it afterwards. They also made some really novice mistakes like not sharing a tent/splitting the gear between the three bikes.
Without wanting to get too bike-techie, I think they're retarded for not just buying 3 KTMs if that's what they really wanted. Even properly prepped for prolonged off road- riding, 3 KTM 950s would be under £50,000 which is bugger all money to Ewan and Charlie. The fuss they made about having to have the BMWs instead was well OTT when you bear this in mind.
That said, I reckon they made the right "decision" re: the BMWs. I don't think the KTMs would have made it (probably KTM's real motivation for not giving them the bikes, rather than that Charlie and Ewan weren't up to it). A mate has recently bought the same make/model and in under 4000 miles it has been sent back under warranty. It must have broken down a dozen times, it's ridculous. True, he may have a duff one, but I've heard similar things of other ones, too. Incidentally Boorman recently crashed out of the Paris Dakar, I think he was trying to ride on with broken wrists (not unusual in the Dakar) and gave up.
I had a go on a mate's proper dirt bike last weekend (as opposed to a road bike in offroad clothes) on a gravel pit and now really want to get into off road riding.

bogala, you should write Ewan a letter. Perhaps you could listen to Stan by Eminem while you write it.
