for making fair use backup copies of my dvd's.

i am looking for shareware so i can back up my dvd's. yeah
so like if they get scratched.. or something..? and i of
course would not do any pirate-like activities of course.
it would be fair use you see. i would try to be fair.

legally, you can't. dvds are encrypted - breaking the
encryption is against the law.

the whole "making a copy for yourself"-thing doesn't apply
to dvd's.

that said, I'm sure there are shareware programs that will
help you break the law.

ok i'm interested in breaking the law then. i admit it. i
used DVD shrink for a long time but it won't decrypt Howl's
Moving Castle.

wtf? maybe i need a parrot and an eyepatch.

by the time your dvds degrade and become unplayable there
will be another megaformat we can all waste our hard earned
money on pointless upgrading anyway

I use DVD Shrink, but an old version of it. I tried the
newer versions but they always had problems decrypting
random DVDs. The old version I have has never had a
problem, and I've backed up probably 100-150 different DVDs
with it with it. I don't know what version I have, but I'll
look it up later when I get home.

I use the new DVDshrink and it works like a charm. I rented
all the new films from my library. Really new films. I had
problems w/ sony discs so I got dvd fab decrypter. It strips
the encryption. Then I drag it to dvdshrink and it works
great. Both progs are free and brainless to use. Good for
me.

I use Amazon and Visa to obtain multiple copies.

I don't actually, I use a combination of all the methods
mentioned in this thread, I just wanted to say my little
"joke".
