Haha not really.. :P

People tend to take drugs because they are illegal, if it
was a normal thing, maybe the persons wouldn't be curious to
try them that much.

Obara: Just came back home, I'm still sober this time.. :)

No no, I had the cash, but I have just drank a couple of
beers and a gin tonic. There were three mates of mine, their
girlfriends and mine. Pretty enjoyable night.

with the decriminalisation of drugs comes the removal of a
large part of the criminal underworld.. that is to say -

if i were a dope-smoker here, as i was, i'd find it very
easy to get my hands on ecstacy, heroin and cocaine.

were it illegal, i'd be going down to a coffee-shop and
buying from them. that's not to say i'd run into people
selling other, harder drugs, but still, it means that there
wouldn't be dope dealers who then push harder drugs onto the
user.

yea but legalising hard drugs is like saying it's ok to
slowly kill yourself as a government, this is not right
(harddrugs being everything but dope, i heard this
distinction is dutch)

Is cigarette-smoking not a means to slowly kill yourself?

Taking the most obvious case, weed for decriminalisation -
it is impossible to kill yourself by using the drug. so why
does it remain illegal?

offline mimi on 2006-03-11 20:48 [#01857980]

big, you go from this: im for prostitution because no one
gets hurt really, also it
will lessen sex crimes, i do think it's kinda immoral
however

...to this...

yea but legalising hard drugs is like saying it's ok to
slowly kill yourself as a government, this is not right
(harddrugs being everything but dope, i heard this
distinction is dutch)

but then isn't legalizing prostitution kind of like if a
government were to, say endorse men's right to a woman's
body any time he feels like it? how's that philosophy gonna
stop rape?

yea im not talking about everything but weed, cigs and
alcohol, the stuff that will make you stop being able to
function like a human being should

mimi, there isn't an inconsistancy to be for prostitution
and against bad drugs, because it's two different
things(harddrugs)

" but then isn't legalizing prostitution kind of like if a
government were to, say endorse men's right to a woman's
body any time he feels like it? how's that philosophy gonna
stop rape? "

i don't think prostitution will have that effect on men. and
at least lower sex crimes (because you won't rape when you
can get a prostitute. prices can run rather low as well in a
free market system, i understand)

so im saying i think the government shouldn't make moral
judgements (prostitution) but should take action when people
are getting hurt (from harddrugs)

big, you dodged what i said.

yea but legalising hard drugs is like saying it's ok to
slowly kill yourself as a government

governments have made cigarettes illegal. they ban harmless
drugs like weed, and the more harmful ones (which could be
controlled, in terms of quality, and amount sold, were they
decriminalised)

address what i've said though. you can't just say:

yea im not talking about everything but weed, cigs and
alcohol, the stuff that will make you stop being able to
function like a human being should

cigarettes do a pretty damn good job of stopping you
function like a human being should: they put you six feet
under.

to me they just take some years of your life off, it's a
lesser evil than harddrugs
anyway i can't follow you in a theoretical argument that the
government allows ciggarettes (which i think they should)
and therefor should do the same for terrible drugs
