You know, the thing about generative music is at least half
the process of composition is building the generator. Using
someone else's is halfassed collaboration at best, misuse
and theft at worst.

You might argue that it's a valuable learning experience to
see how someone else did something, but if you already know
how to program then you're just tainting your own
compositions - and if you don't know how to program, which
seems to be the case with about 99% of the people who are
interested in shit like this, then you are merely
ejac-u-wanking.

Max comes with superb documentation. Do one tutorial a day,
or one every two days, and in a month or two you'll be
building things that are just as interesting - and more
importantly, they will be yours.

This is symptomatic of what's wrong with electronic music -
a genre that should be exploring the boundaries of what's
possible and veering off into all sorts of exciting new
directions is instead crawling up into its own asshole.

good points, i hope no one uses this in their own music,
that would be pretty funny if they did.

These werent stolen. Thats just to get your attention.
Regardless, I dont have a problem with it. I see it as a
pedagogical tool, thats it. I was thankful to see these.
Its not like anyone is going to use these and successfully
implement them into their own tracks and then make a ton of
cash and become the most 1337 and respected electronic
musician on the scene. For that matter, its not like any of
the already established electronic musicians trades secrets,
techniques, and patches.

Erm, wait....

interesting to see how a complex whatnot is jiggered
together and stuff. generative music is all fine and well
and there's no reason why it should be considered inferior
to any other music. as he who is fleet of mouse already said
the compositional part has its grounding in the design of
the aforementioned whatnot. using someone else's programming
to generate "your own" music is fun but don't make you no
genius. hence the usefulness of this is as a window onto how
people who are better at stuff than i am do the stuff that
they are better than me at.

Earlier today i was thinking that i was surprised that you
dont. You attention to detail in music and overall love for
sound is a great characteristic for any artist to have. You
pretty much have what it takes.

Do you mess around with any programs? I think you should

the patch though. So impakt, no feets stepped on I hope!

Anyways, the confield one is new to me though. You should

I haven't gotten to changing the sound-generators yet cause
the thing keeps crashing on me so it's really frustrating
and doesn't make me want to keep working on it really :p

in programming, like any other art, each person develops
their own style. Even if you know how to program this shit,
I couldn't see why you wouldn't want to see how another
person does it, as it could give you ideas that you can use
that you might not have thought of before. There are no true
innovators, just people who help push things along faster
than others. I don't see why people always seem to jump to
hating first thing in this messageboard. Its not fun.

Agreed. Let's be honest, it's not like Ae went from zero
knowledge to this level of ability with MaxMSP. I bet they
did a few tutorials and looked at some examples themselves.
The actual learning from this example isn't really any
different. However, I can see the point that people dislike
the idea of something "stolen" like this being used to
rip-off/imitate autechre.
