why do so many of you "need" more music

just a curious question.

many of you (when discussing ae's untilted for e.g.) mention
something, then request a new EP?

what is that about.

why are so many people so forward ?

if anything, im going backwards it seems.

seems like the majority of the people who post "often" on
this board are always interested in the next release. i'd
more than content with a few albums...let alone a huge
library of the past 10years.

why do you feel so ... expectant of a new release...are you
somehow convinved that there is some magic formula out there
.. someone that is going to come along . and literally
reshape everything?

those days are over, i dunno.

what are you expecting?
what is your opinion on what is to come? if anything.
most people want "more of the old" or to "relive the days of
AB and whatnot.

where do you see yourself

if i hear an album 2x per day, that makes it 730 times per
year. i get a bit tired of it after hearing that many times
i guess. i always expect artist to release their best work
to date and i see myself enjoying a sunny day in kingston.

Because I've listened through their whole catalogue many
times, and want something new? Not that strange really...

i go a bit forward and make a huge step backwards. there's
lots and lots of music from the past that i haven't yet
discovered. and i'm going to.

e.g. amon tobin or chris clark - i couldn't bother to check
them before, and lately came the time to listen to them. and
i feel as if i discovered "something new" - listening to
their albums/tracks about 10 years old that are new and
fresh and smashing and lush and cool to me.

besides, waiting and expecting brings disappointment, right.

Quoted for titties.

Actually, I tend to be a bit behind sometimes, I don't count
down the days until a new release drops on my calender,
don't really keep track. I'm usually too busy trying to sort
out my backlog and complete previous listening assignments.
Most of my favorite albums from 2005, I haven't heard yet.
Gets annoying, but ''too much music'' is not a horrible
problem to have. And I'm better at managing my music intake
than I used to be.

"i go a bit forward and make a huge step backwards.

yet discovered. and i'm going to."

> same here... it's logical, it would be stupid to focus on
new releases only whereas there are so many great releases
already released!

as for getting more music instead of sticking with the same
albums all the time, well - i love music. it seems pretty
obvious to me that if i ilke music, i wouldn't want to miss
out on good music i wouldn't know yet... and that doesn't
mean i abandon the albums i already have, it just gives me
more choice, expands my musical horizons etc. new stimuli.
just like discovering new places, reading new books, etc...
it would be too bad to miss out on that - life will always
give you new bad stimuli as you grow up then old, so
better counterbalance it with new good ones...
now...
there is, strangely, sometimes cases where i have only one
album by a particular artist and like to stick with it. or
times where i wish i had only stuck with the one album i had
of that artist — not because the other ones are bad, but
because the album i had in the first place was more
"special"/unique before i discovered the others.

There are not many artists that I actually look forward to
their next release, it takes a huge number of listenings for
me to be tired of good music, and then I forget it quickly
enough too. I look forward to 2nd and 3rd albums more
regularly because I know less what to expect.

If a classic record comes out its nice to have been waiting
for it and bought it on the first day, its exciting.

i think that's exactely where im at. especially with hip
hop.

as for the latest boc release? i was patient and didnt have
any worries or wants to listen to the leaks.

for once i was cool/calm with a new release and didn't care
when i'd get around listening to it.

good discussion, thanks

why the fuck does everyone think that everything in music
has been done and everything can't be 'reshaped' or people
can't release that will be absolutly ground-breaking and
blow us away.

sometimes i wish one album was enough for ever. i last
thought that way about jackson ahcb "smash", i kept
listening to it for weeks and i couldn't get bored...[before
i kind of did, inevitably] that's just an example, but there
come albums like that...again and again - which is some
blessing.

np. violator. omg ! what an album.

and i was just thankful to BOC for finding the time to
release something. that's very kind of them ;] sure, TCH is
not as mind blowing [for me] as geogaddi was, but it's still
quality BOC stuff.

i listened to lateralus by tool again lately —
still sounding as brilliant as ever.

just for the record, i think the oldest album i have ("old"
since i have it, not since it was released) which i haven't
got bored of at all is risotto by fluke.

i enjoy putting myself in the environment in which the
musician best wants me to listen to their music... i enjoy
the fact that music is brain-washing... i like that concept
that you can hear things and put yourself into that mindset.
