sorry, this has prolly been up before, but..
grime&dubstep are new to me ..what's the idm-view on this?
vex'd is on mu, so it's connected to idm somehow :p
at first i thought grime was more hiphop/rap, and dubstep was instrumental, but hmm, that's "too easy", a dubstep track would becoma grime with a mc :p
i read somewhere, that the basline is important? if a grime track has a d&b bassline, then it's dubstep ... remove the bassline and it's grime??

and at first i thought amon tobin was just pure boring drum and bass, but he's apparently more than that. thank you lord.
bassline is important, but not....the most important. hello.

Fuck knows really, it's a pretty blurry line as far as i can tell. The tracks i've heard people call dubstep tend to be more minimal and, well, dubby sounding... stuff like loefah, digital mystikz, scuba, all that lot. Straight "grime" stuff i think of as more in-yer-face, terror danjah-style overdriven beats and cheesy-nasty synths, generally more mc-heavy as well. Then there's sublow, which is basically dubstep with the focus on fucking massive sub-40hz basslines.
As long as it gets yer arse shaking, who cares?

digital mystikz,mala,coki , hatcha , dj pinch , boxcutter , random trio , skream, grim dubs , loefah , shackleton , kode 9 , pressure ,DAAAAAAAAAAN
see id say most of rephlex's grime 2 is more dubsteppy but grime 1 is er grimier who knows , but stuff like davinche , jammer etc is grime i spose. as others have said more MC driven stuff.
just listen to mary anne hobbs.

I put some of my fave dubstep records (Grim Dubs - Vol 4, Loefah - The Goat Stare, Skream - Midnght Request Line) on this mix here
Dubstep is definately all about the Sub Bass. Don't agree with dnb on 33- rarely an amen in dubstep.
Dubstep is a physical music. Sounds good at home but is on a soundsystem where it comes alive- the frequencies hit you in different parts of the body.
Grimes more snappy more choppy
Anyone into IDM, and not into Dubstep (and lives in the U.K) should go along to the DMZ nights.... I reckon.

well I guess you could say dubstep is dub music with an d&b type of bassline. it's basicly dub with a synth bass instead of a real bass.
grime is more upbeat then dubstep. with a more melodic bassline. and the sound of the bass is also quite distinctive. very square-ish.
I could be wrong
