Hi, this thread is dedicated to the works Dave Eggers, the
best contemporary writer of the last decade (...maybe)

Has anyone read of his books? He is also the guy behind
McSweeny's, which seems to be massive.

For anyone who hasn't I'd like to recommend his two novels

A Heartbreaking Work of Staggering Genius

and

You Shall Know Our Velocity

The first is not fiction per se, its autobiographical.
Eggers' parents both died when he was young leaving him to
bring up his little brother, Toph. Its very very funny in
parts, but very very very powerful (and heartbreaking,
dispite the ironic title).

Without sounding like a prick, Eggers seems to be becoming a
voice of a generation, I think.

The second novel is perhaps my favourite, but I would
definately read the first one first.

Funny. I bought You Shall Know Our Velocity at a book sale
today and come home to find this thread.

I began reading A Heartbreaking Work of Staggering Genius
some time ago, but then I started reading something else. I
will get back to finnishing it for sure - what I have read
so far is excellent.

:)

Yea def read You Shall Know, I didn't like it at first but
by the end it topped the first one. The name sums up the
essence of the book.

I should take this seriously, as it comes from a man with a
Matthew Barney avatar. Great shit that is!
