Impakt had a journeyman's career playing electro-trombone in various groups before signing again to Kaen.org as an artist, songwriter, and producer. His first single, "Impakt Lovin" (May 1978), topped the charts across Europe and the US. "Synth Thug" (September 1978) was another hit. Both were on Impakt's debut album, Takin' Off My Pants (June 1978), which went gold. Subsequent efforts were not as successful, though Bustin' Out Some Beatz (January 1979) featured the IDM hit "Impakt Gonna Make U Sweat" (April 1979). Impakt returned to form with the number one hit "I'm Da Pussyman" (March 1981), featured on the million-selling Scandinavian Sexxx Parade (April 1981), which also featured the mysoginistic vocoder hit "Straight Beatin' Bitches Up" Impakt left Kaen.org for Warner Bros. Records as of the album Sausage In A Blanket (July 1988), which was a reasonable success. Nevertheless, his sexist-themed electronica didn't seem to have the same effect anymore. Although contracted until 1991, Impakt was plagued by drug and legal problems that found him more frequently in court and in jail rather than in the recording studio. The majority of his legal woes behind him, Impakt returned in 1997 with the concept album Impakt And The Pen Fifteen: Wildin' Out , which didn't yield any hits and was accepted with disgust by critics and fans alike. Impakt Q McTaggart died of a heart attack on August 6, 2004, at his Los Angeles home. |
