if you're asking this question, the best sound card you could go with is just a sound blaster live platinum--if you're looking to eventually start messing around with production. Otherwise get the step-down from the platinum. Creative just make good sound cards. hoping you can afford it though... but it's worth it.

i already use my comp for music production. i have mostly used my bandmate's mac up untill this point and just want to get my own pc into the game. i have a soundblaster 16 now but it is notably fuzzy/clicky at times. i was wondering about those cards that have the multiple in's/out's and stuff like the event gina or whatever. any good info websites bout that stuff?

I really wouldn't consider a SB card for music production at all. For just a little more money you can buy an entry level pro card such as the M Audio Audiophile or the Echo Mia, both with stereo analogue I/O and S/PDIF digital I/O (the Audiophile has MIDI too). These cards are of much higher quality than the SB and come with quality pro drivers, without all the bloated crap that that comes with the SB EAX games presets etc. I'd go for the Echo Mia, myself.
Check out the Echo and M Audio sites for more info, and check out Sound On Sound (www.sound-on-sound.com) for reviews of soundcards. They've got a decent forum there too where you can pick up tips.
Er, if you aren't doing music production then an SBLive! would do!
Hope this helps,
Chris.
