i haven't seen it.. i could have by now though. i kind of hesitated, because even though i am not homophobic, i generally don't like to watch two men kiss. On the other hand, i don't mind a love story, it's not my thing, but if the film is good and it draws me into it, then yes i'll give it a go. |

all of symbols. dead sheep, killing a deer, shepherd's theme - almost taken from a Bible... this movie also showed all masks worn by modern men in 21st century: tough , not emotional guys hiding their feelings, good husbands with poker faces. these masks just don't work when you find true love. so i think that the first and most important topic of this movie is: take off your mask. |

Which one of them was homosexual? I was thinking about it and, man! It is not so obvious. All we know is that Ennis was a virgin (in the age of ...25-30?) when he met Jack Twist ("You may be a sinner, but I ain’t yet had the opportunity...." - he says) - so maybe this is a key. But 4 years later: two children, wife and all... So complicated. The same with Jack. And after 4 years - their first meeting! It wasone of the most intense scenes in the movie. So there is no answer. They fell in love, so deep they couldn't live without each other. |

This thread almost sets my homophobic tendencies aside. Almost. But I like the references in Scary Movie 4 though. And they scare me aswell. I'm not going to watch a movie with two guys making out in a tent. No matter how emotionally touching the rest of the movie is. I'd watch it nevertheless though. Having a fetish is always a good thing. |

I saw this when it came out on DVD. It was good, but I didn't like the ending... too depressing. I found this hilarious review of it on IMDB: Broken by a film I'm 23, and I find it hard to write this review. I saw the film exactly one week ago today and not a moment has gone by when I don't ache. It finds me in the shower; it haunts me in bed; it has filled my mind and clings to my thoughts, and it won't let up. I try to lie to myself, to find some solace by saying that it's just a movie, but I know better. Jack and Ennis are alive, and they represent so many aching people, so many untold stories. There is no contrivance, no manufactured importance; there are no tricks. Brokeback Mountain tells, with painful honesty and frankness, the story of two men's lives and nothing more. Whether you are gay or straight, it doesn't hit close to home: it hits you. Brokeback Mountain is a place we all most desperately yearn to go. It's where we can be free. It feels funny to say that Brokeback Mountain is my favorite film of all time, because I think it almost an injustice to call it a film at all, or to critique its incredible technical sophistication. Somehow Brokeback Mountain transcends that. I could hear a thousand speeches celebrating diversity or read a hundred love stories and not be absolutely broken in just two hours as I was after this film. I've never felt waves of nausea come over me as I did sitting in that theater, my face contorted as I watched truth and honesty spill from the screen and onto moviegoers who had no idea what they were in for. I am usually the first to point out bias, so I know my words might be mistaken for favoritism or blind loyalty. They should not. This movie will change your existence. I find so many things in my life trivial now in the wake of this film---for me, watching it was truly like having a near-death experience. And am I better for it? Yes. Broken and undone, but better. For once in my life, I feel hope, and I've seen love. |

I think the "cowboys" looked like they were dressed for a school play. Jillenhual had a glued on moustache. The film was average. I think you have to say you loved it and cryed in order to not look like a homophobe. I failed to see the perfection of this film. Boys don't cry was a little more compelling to me, but still one of those have to love it or you are a nazi films. Maybe I should see it again to give it a another chance. Hype, so far for me. |

It's just comments like, oh, i generally don't like to watch two men kiss (generally), I'm not going to watch a movie with two guys making out in a tent that are revolting. And lumping this film with any other 'gay movie', talking about this one aspect only, how deeply communitarian. You're all pretty disgusting. |
