I just read a review saying that some of ICBYD is like
house, and I've read that Daft Punk make house music... what
is house music?

I don't know any definite definitions, but most house uses a
TR-909 drum machine and a basic 4-to-the-floor drum beat,
you know...dum-cha-dum-cha! Ofcourse, there's lots of
different sub genres, deep house, prog house, handbag house
etc

And sorry if you weren't serious, I can't believe you don't
know what house is, its one of the biggest if not THE
biggest dance genre present =) Ofcourse I'm not laying in to
you either, its easier when you hear a persons tone of voice

well just because it's big and the songs are always played
doesn't mean I would know what makes it house...

House is a giant all encompasing genre simmilar to rock,
jazz or IDM. Everything from Frankie Knuckles to The Orb is
considered house + all that 'cheesy house' stuff that gets
played in the suckier clubs.

I love the idea of putting 'acid' before any type of music.
Acid house, acid jazz, acid rock, acid flamengo. All it is
is a 4/4 beat and one of those digital synths playing a
simple melody over it. All it intends to do is make you
dance. Not a lot more.

funkmaster... you gotta get a bigger music collection... if
you really want to earn the title of "funkmaster"...

i care aint house: the term house is usually used to mean
stuff with that 4tothafloor beat (although it is used too
widely) but basically if you imagine disco with synth drums
and chordy bits on top. when it works it really works but
90% of it is just a soul sample over the same drumbeats as
every other house record (thud thud thud thud or thud clap
thud clap)

jingle

ICBYD is NOT House....

The good House-records are snowed under by millions and
millions of bad House-records IMHO. A bit like Hiphop :(

there is some really soulful and beautiful house, but you're
likely not to find it. i know this doesn't answer your
question. most is pretty bad. i'm sure somebody will write
a program that will replace the house dj someday and there
will be a constant supply of the generic dance music for
all.

well, I have music that is considered "House", but I was
just wondering how music is classified as house... like what
does it all have in common...

i don't have any clue. sometimes i think i'm listeing to
techno, and somebody says something about it being
"tech-house." what i do know is if it sounds like disco
mixed smoothly with modern techno production then it is
likely house music.

offline TrevorGod from Toronto (Canada) on 2002-03-03 05:02 [#00109406]

Some house is just old mo-town with a 4/4 - 808 or 909 beat
underneath and played at 126 BPM. Other stuff is, as
Canerfold said, disco mixed with techno.

heh, tech house... it seems like there is a classification
for each specific song... what I really get a kick out of is
when people stick core at the end of things... Jazz-core,
Rap-core, IDM-core, etc, etc... :)

...old school stuff, house, detroit techno influences...

on Warp records...

Various artists...

ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE 1 (warp6)

10+1 INFLUENCES (WARP67)

10+2 CLASSICS (WARP68)

on Rephlex...

UNIVERAL INDICATOR (cat117)

808 State- Newbuild EP

...also alot of Aphex stuff is influenced by Acid House and
Deroit techno which dates back to the mid to late 80s,
before the Trance scene of the 90s.

alot of the hard/fast tracks on Drukqs are RDJs attempt to
take acid to a new fucked up level, like Cock/Ver10

here is list of terms i copied from www.allmusic.com

Related Styles: House Disco Hi-Nrg Newbeat Techno
Club/Dance Hardcore Techno Rave Trance New Jack R&B
Tribal-House Freestyle Acid Alternative Dance Detroit
Techno Electronica Funky Breaks Gabber Progressive House
Happy Hardcore Ambient House Madchester Big Beat Goa
Trance Tech-House Experimental Jungle Minimal Techno
IDM

don't get so hung up on labels, they are just
over-simplified labels to try to pigeonhole styles...

There's just SOOOO many alternate labels and genres, and
different categories and groupings... and the majority of
the ''sub-genres'' of a genre sound the same anyway!!!!
Seems like just changing the length of a fucking song will
put you in a new genre... ''6 Minute House'', ''5:32
House'',
''7:08 Written by London Crack Addict House''...

I don't like dance music at all, unless it's HARD-EDGED
dance like early 4/4 Aphex Twin.
