I've never heard anything by this guy. I just want some
good tracks to see if I like him.

All his tracks off the schematic compilations: ischematic
folks and lily of the valley impressed me a lot

I just bought lipswitch and aleamapper... I'm still deciding
if I like it... I'm pretty sure I do, it has all the
ingredients of something I like... basically highly
intricate and complex stuff that's organized well. So far I
wasn't impressed with aleamapper much, it seems more
ambient. Some lipswitch tracks are pretty wicked... this
music takes time to absorb. I don't like it as much as
autechre, crunch, otto von schirach probably.

Float 82, Vecpr, Foci Duplication, Kepter, Lens Align to
name a few...

A lot of time indeed.

It seems he uses the same "formula" for a lot of his songs.

Oh yeah, Partition Refinement and Step Focus are good tracks
too, IMO.

And what formula is that, wMw?

I can't really say much about it because I need to hear
more, but on formula that seems to repeat is:
complex fragmented sound debris playing in the far left and
right panning positions... then a linear beat in the
middle.
I don't like the tracks that are more "ambient", like the
ones that sound like 10 wav files with little conventional
musical quality were all smushed around together. At least
from what I heard so far, like most the aleamapper tracks.

Hey clic, listen to www.mp3.com/jbohn... there's this track
called "walking on eggshells" because I downloaded an mp3
from soulseek and it almost definately used a huge sample
from this song... see if you recognize it..? I was
surprised to hear it...

Hehehe, I see what you mean. That stuff sounds pretty
interesting though. Did you look at his history on there?
He's had a lot of musical education. Guess that sort of
thing comes in handy, but I think that you should only use
it as a tool; not as a formula for everything you write.

Yeah, bohn... james bohn, is a music teacher I'm pretty sure
somewhere... It was a sample in the very beginning of some
richard devine track that had some of those exact same
"speak and spell" type voices. weird.
