Name story-albums

Name some albums that are stories from beginning to end
like a grand don't come for free by the streets.

NOT concept albums like Sufjan Stevens where he does songs
all about one state, but albums where it's a single story
all the way through.

Prince Paul - A Prince Among Thieves
NIN - The Downward Spiral
The Who - Tommy
-------------------------

That's all I can think of.

Roger Waters: The Pros and Cons of Hitch Hiking and Radio
KAOS.

Sorry, I can only think of not-very-good-ones. Probably
because the idea of making an album that tells a story isn't
a very good one. Works for classical music. Not for much
else.

Recoil - Liquid

Yeah there's a lot of that in classic rock. I'm looking for
stuff that's written in a morel literal down to earth way
than highflown poetry and symbolism tho.

I will check out that Prince Paul. Don't know recoil.

Funny, I expected people to say things that woulod make me
go "oh yeah, how could I have forgotten that one?"

Not sure if Music For Egon Schiele (by Rachels) falls into
this category but I throw it out there for the world of
xilti to discuss.

Shpongle - Nothing Lasts... But Nothing is Lost

it goes seamlessly from one "chapter" to another.
basicly, the album is a one hour track.
you could call it a story. check it out.

Sabres of Paradise - Haunted Dancehall? It seems to follow
some sort of narrative.

This album is the story of a pilots life as his plane
descends ground-ward. Rushing past his minds eye are visions
of sexual encounters, tales of ghetto lovin', stories of
weird existences, insights into various cancers of society
which are chewed upon within the lyrics.

Intersystems- Free Psychedelic Poster Inside (really odd old
canadian electro-psych act...)
Armand Schaubroeck- A Lot of People Would Like to See Armand
Schaubroeck... Dead (another old psych album... sort of
bluesy... very strange, long story sequences between
"songs")

oh, Mondo Medicale by Impaled for death metal fans... i
like a few of the songs... it's worth hearing once for the
skits. it's something to do with surgery and zombies... i
don't know, it's cute.

i'm not sure if isis - oceanic is but it sounds like one to
me

and as far as stuff without lyrics, i would take tim
hecker's haunt me haunt me and earth's hex as one long story
(or at least one long track)

aren't a few of Tom Waits' albums like that? some of them
are musicals, at least...

Ry Cooders Chavéz Ravine is a nice album, though the story
doesn't only revolve around one person.. it's more the story
of a town...

antony and the johnsons - i am a bird now

machina by the smashing pumpkins too (at least billy
corgan said so, and the (beautiful) booklet indeed looks
like a story, but it's really hard to grasp..)
i've heard there also is an album by xtc, produced by todd
rundgren, who tells the story of a man from his beginning to
his death or something like that but i forgot the title (i
don't like what i've heard from xtc so far anyway).
