Maybe it have already been discuss, but well.....
I was wondering, how do create melodies?
I mean, do you spend a night messing around with your
keyboard or do you find melodies immediatly?

I think I spend too much time playing on my keyboard, trying
to find the right notes in the right tone....And the result
is usually a really crappy melody....

How about you?where to get started?
Please discuss. Exam begins now, I collect your copies in 3
hours

it is better to have sounds in some cases than melodies,
sound progressions instead of chord progressions. know what
im saying? i go that route and then i add melodic elements
ontop of that and it usually sounds phat

here's how you get started: go to your instrument, choose
three notes at random, play them in any order.
congratulations, you have written your first melody.

Music uses me as a conduit to express itself. It's magic.

The mysterious mystery of creativity.

There's no way I've got the energy to find this article for
you.... but... In the 1940's there was a group of 'artists'
in munich aiming towards the 'perfect music' and another
group after the same thing from Paris. The difference
between them was the Munich collective bellieved nature had
the answer so that's where they observed. The Paris lot
insisted on music concrete. Anyway.... one of the munich
guys aged 81, on his death bed said 'fuck all this
nonsense, I love doh ray mee, it's great!'

a good story told bad.

the only way I can get a good melody is by singing something
in my head, then later tediously find exactly which keys
they are. They're usually gay. kind of similar to south
park's dradle dradle song. of course the end product is made
with tones from short wavs looped in modplug tracker and
sounds much worse than standard.

jews
play stupid games

jews
that's why they're lame

courtney cox

i love you

you're so fine

Isn't that tedious? Once you hear what it sounds like in
your head, the rest is like filing stool samples in a stool
sample cabinet.

i piddle about in nonchromatic
scales until i do something new
or! otherwise i might invert a
melody i like for example kaini
industries invert it and further
process it until its uniquely.

i use the piano.

(but, in fact, all melodies are mathematical combinations
that always existed and can be discovered)

three monkeys and a trainee have traveled to space.
central base orders:
- Alpha, check oxigen and repairs. Beta, close departures
and start ignition. Lambda, check positions and landing
situation. George, change the diapers and clean everything.

I can't do it easily at all. I guess I have little natural
accurate perception of telling the difference in frequency
between notes.

I have to be like "ooooooooh"

*holds down a key*
*brrrrrrrrrrrrrr*

"ooooooooh" "ooooooooooh"
*brrrrrrrrr*

hmm, is it e or f... ooooooh brrrrrrrrrrr... it doesn't help
that one is oooh and one is brrr either.

If I just wing it and create the melody in my head into
modplug tracker 1) the whole thing will be shifted onto the
wrong note probably 2) individual notes will be incorrect

I can only use the white keys too because.. the rest are
just too damn many keys.

I found I was struggling to come up with lush melodies to
augment my fucked up beats. Then it hit me, BAM, fucked up
melodies and lush beats!!!! The rest, as the say, is
history.

i've been hitting that wall too. it's a nightmare
sometimes.

it's a lot easier to throw cool sounds into one bag or build
awesome machines making those ultra cool sounds. but to put
those sounds in order and make a composition, a track that
isn't boring or copycative or overloaded with instruments -
that's other thing.

i am actually addressing the Cage quote [about composition],
not the first post [about melody itself].
